so how high do you plan to rev it? now or down the road? forged internals aren't needed for a 6500rpm NA build thats for sure

Bad thing is that theyre the only chevy dealership where i live. its a small city so they take advantage i guess. Im just gonna get em through gmparts directs, or even some used ones will do.
for GM parts go through Jason Cromer @ Sam Taylor Buick & Cadillac -877-726-8295
he sells wholesale and the shipping is at cost

Definatly soon. I plan on sending my pcm to a tuner right after the build. Then ill do a dyno tune, since the nearest dyno tuner is probably around 2-3 hours away from me. Id hate to drive it for 3 hours and across a moutain range with no tune whatsoever.

I was planning on just asking my tuner what he'd recommend. I already have my valvetrain picked out, so i guess im just waiting on what cam to go with. I really dont know much about how choosing the right rev limits and so on and such.

I know the lunatis 60122 power ranges from 2400-6200rpm
and the cc503 from 1800-5800rpm

Looks like the lunati kicks in at higher RPMs, but it might loose some power down low compared to the 503.

Good news! I just received my patriot springs last night. Got em for a deal i couldnt pass in this forum. Its part number 8501-bsbc but its only missing the valve seals so Im going to buy some at vatozone for cheap.

So, I think im going to start by buying all my top end parts. I pretty much have them picked out except my pushrods size. It should all be around 600 bucks excluding the cam and pushrods, which ill buy till the end. what do you guys think?

Also, i finally decided on what cam im going to get. Lunati voodoo 60122. I think its not TOO big and will pull at mid-high rpms. Its bigger than the cc503 and not everybody is running it. Anyone know what i can expect from it?

I'd go with Lloyd Elliots 226/232 or Advance inductions 226/234 both can by used on stock heads. Who's pulling your motor? Are you paying to get all the work done? I'm in the middle of my build and I don't plan on buying a single valvetrain part until the time comes.

It's all the extra stuff that's gonna add up. Plugs and wires, waterpump, opti, longtubes, poly motor mounts..etc. Plus all the suspension to put all of this new power to the ground. I missed it, are you auto or m6? If auto you are gonna need a stall. That's eaisly $600. Plus a trans cooler.

Not trying to rant on but this is all the stuff I have thought about during my build

You can find very good prices on used forged short blocks on hear all the time. If your safe and make sure your getting what is advertised then you should be fine. I have seen 7k engines go for 1500-2000 on here. I have one and it works great. One thing in my experiance I have found is that camming a 150k or more motor normally only last a short period. Most of the time the cam.bearings are worn a bit and the new cam eats them up causeinthe rods or mains to go out. Very risky at that milage.

mcalus, thanks for the cam suggestions. Ill look into the AI one, but last i heard was that lloyd elliot didnt sell cams only anymore. I dont think i have enough for a the whole head/cam combo either
and youre right, its all those extra bolt ons thatll add up.

96transamboosted, thanks for reminding me of cam bearings, i hadnt thought of that. I might as well change them since the engine will be out, but which ones should i go for? i havent looked into them and have no idea what to look for yet.

Unless you heard within the last month it's a rumor.

I just bought mine from Lloyd just shy of a month ago.

AI's are expensive, brace yourself. That's why I went with LE's.

mclaus i saw your build thread and i gotta say congrats, its really showing progress subbed too

However i couldnt find wether you got your heads ported or not, or if youre planning on doing so.
I looked into the LE 226/232 cam you mentioned and it looks very similar to the cc503 which was my initial choice. I was really considering the lunati voodoo 60122, but im kinda doubtful about the rpm range and if its a smart choice for a DD.

Ill wait to hear your feedback on your cam, hope it all goes well

Thanks! My short block is currently being put together, although I'll probably not get it running until next spring. I am going to run stock heads then get them ported when I get around to it lol.
