Default What might this be ???

Well got my new valve train set up and such everything is fine there. But now after all this my car will not crank over..

First went to discount to get the battery checked.......everything checked out fine
Second checked everything made sure if it was off the headers......check there

Its acting like the battery is dead and the terminals on the battery are getting REALLLLLL hot even when not cranking the starter doesn't click or anything just go to start it and like barley trys to turn over..............any ideas where to start looking...........I want to drive this thing and actually might have a trade on it for a newer Bird.......

Might be going to the dark side

I had a similar problem (not exactly because it was only when you tried to engage the starter that the battery would get hot) when I went to crank mine for the 1st time after my last build. I believe it was the small ground wire that connects to the starter. I moved it to one of the 2 long smaller bolts on the starter and it worked great. Since yours is getting hot when you're not trying cranking it, it's probably not the same issue, but may be something similar like a bad ground somewhere else.

So when you hook up the battery to the car, without turning the key on, the battery and/or wires get hot? If so then something is pulling juice or trying to and not getting enough. Or you may have some wires crossed.

Gotta hate electrical problems, I feel your pain.

I agree with the starter being the issue, its likely grounding out internally. I'm sure i have read and seen a vid of your car running before, did this just happen or have you not started the new motor? If everything was running OK and you installed your new top end and now it wont start, more likely than not the starter just went out.

Yeah it ran with the new valve train parts but like i said the battery died when I was driving it the other day.......Clued the alternator everything was good with the alternator but now the starting problems clues me to the starter maybe like you guys said maybe grounding out internally ???

Pull the starter and swap it out, im sure you have one laying around. I dont trust bench test that much since most dont put a proper load on the starter. Never trust autozone type places i have seen to many times there equipment is not calibrated correctly and give wrong reading.

If you have the parts store test your parts and they fail, have them test the new units as well to make sure it dont fail the test as well.

I don't have the money to throw at the car......I have bills and such that I won't let the car get in the way of ruining my credit. Stock car is a lot more likely to run everytime I want to go some where. Just not logical to keep my car at this point I'd love to do something with the LT1 platform when I'm in the Air Force but right now I might just build something cheap and fun like a 5.3 in an S10 or something.

From what you say, if it's true: "the terminals on the battery are getting REALLLLLL hot even when not cranking ." Is this true? If it is the battery will go dead in a few minutes.

A: Does the battery go dead very quickly if you're not doing anything?

B: Does the alternator get hot with everything off?

Answer please....

Al

The battery wasn't the problem I think it was me thinking they were getting extra hot when they weren't my got it started today but the starter barley turns over so thats deff the problem and when we got it started the battery gauge went right to where it was supposed to so starter is probably 99% the issue
