Default powerglide or 3 speed auto???

i have a 95 camaro 6 speed car. i am thinking of going automatic to be more consistant and run delay box bracket racing.
im sure someone has made this change over and any information will help.

can i still run the same crossmember?
do i have to go with different driveshaft?

i will figure out the gear selections and tires sizes to match my combination , however im more interested in what some of you have

there are a few write ups on this swap out there. i did use my factory 6 speed crossmember when i went to a th400. all i had to do was slot it and put a spacer between the memeber and the tranny. as far as a driver shaft, yes it will require a new one. you will want the short tail for the tranny also.

Well, first off what does the car run now? Powerglide will hurt 60 foot times unless you have loads of horsepower. A TH350 or TH400 would be a better choice if you don't.

Al 95 Z28, TH400 w/ brake, S60 w/4.30's

73 Z28 489 inch, Ultrabell Powerglide, Dana 60 w/ 4.56's

I had a th350 swap in my car wasn't as fun as a t56 but much more consistent like you said. I am selling my swap if you're interested.

i would go th350/400 if i were you o.p. unless you have loads of power as someone already stated.

2.52 or 2.48 first gear opposed to 1.82 or 1.76

You will be giving up a ton by switching to a Powerglide. You really need the low first gear that you will get with a TH-350. I wouldn't even look at a TH-400 at your power level.

Get a good converter for the power glide, I lost a little in my 60's from the 4L60E to the powerglide. You will be more consistent with the glide. In my 4L60E I was cutting high 1.4's to low 1.5s. After the switch mid to upper 1.5's. Moved it to Methanol, cutting low 1.5's again.

They don't rob horsepower, easy to work on, lighter then the 3-speeds and take a ton of abuse.

They are more consistent because they shift only one time. He will need some steep gearing to run good numbers with a glide. My 69 Nova was 283, glide, 4.88 and it ran good because it had a very short tire and could pull 7,800 RPM in the traps.

Al 69 Nova, AHRA National Record holder 1981 thru 1984. 283, glide, 12 bolt w/4.88's and a spool. Comp mechanical roller, Harland Sharp rockers, Holley Strip Dominator, Hooker headers 12.00 @ 113 MPH all day long.

I like my glide. Less shifting.
