Check for spark directly at the coil first. Get an old spark plug & spark plug wire and plug in to the coil laying the plug on the intake or something grounded metal. Crank & watch. No spark? Check fuse, 10 amps in the under hood fuse block.

Good spark? The problem is inside the distributor.

Welp i just got back a few hours ago and started trying to figure out whats going on. I cleaned the corrosion off the opti harness, checked for spark at the coil, checked EVERY connector i could find and got no where.

My coil connector had a short in it and had very similar symptoms as your describing, some food for thought

I had the same problem. The wires were corroded and burned with electrical tape just rigged on there holding them together. I fixed that and it fired right up. That was of course after an opti change, icm test, and coil change.

Mine was as gm had made it, if I wiggled it to the right spot, it would fire right up and run just fine, got a new one from napa, soldered it in and it hasn't given me a problem yet. It has also happened to me on the icm and now the coolant temp sensor in the wp. When I go 24x, that efi connections harness is looking pretty good to me after these problems, although I may try the repin kit to save $.

Checked all the connectors to the coil and icm and still not firing.

Are the injectors firing? Then at least you know you are getting a signal from the opti.

I dont know i didnt check because i knew i didnt have spark. So i kinda just ruled fuel out.

You now need to check the harness man. If a known good coil has no spark then my guess is you no longer are getting a signal from the PCM for some reason.

I thought that a dead opti can keep the coil from getting spark also?

Well, from my understanding the optical sensor in the Opti sends a signal to the pcm. The PCM then sends the signal to the injectors and ICM/coil. If your injectors are firing then that would rule out a bad opti or PCM. Then you could start checking the wiring harness. A bad opti can cause a no spark condition at the coil and the injectors wont puls IIRC. I doubt its the opti but it doesnt hurt to check.

I remember from a previous thread on here a guys ignition switch caused a no spark condition like you have. Ill see if I can find the thread.

Thanks man i appreciate the info i didn't know that it would keep the injectors from firing. Ill get on checking it first thing when i wake up.

Just looked it up and low res. controls injectors and high res. controls coils and spark.
