Default Lt1 performance upgrades.

I have recently aquired a ws6 firebird in a trade, and am wanting to do some performance upgrades. It already has headers and magnaflow exhaust but I am not happy with the sound so I will most likely be switching to dynomax bullets. Im looking for close to a 120hp gain. Where should I start? head and cam swap? what are some good lt1 performance options? please escuse me for my ignorance but Im an old school bbc kinda guy.

120 HP? You will need forced induction or nitrous.

good set of worked heads with proper cam, valve train and a proper tune should get you there but the cam may be a bit wild depending on how you use it. you will need all suporting mods like trans (A4) or clutch(M6) possibly a rear in the future depending on what you use it for.

You're kidding right?

Stock LT1 - 275HP + 120HP = 395HP at the motor, translates to ~350whp (loosely).

All bolt-ons, a fairly aggressive cam plus tuning will get him there.

The 400whp mark can easily be achieved with a PROPERLY set up heads/cam package plus bolt-ons.

What do you guys think of the pro 1 heads? As for the cam being too wild that's not possible lol. Also what mods will I need to make to the fueling system and intake?

You don't need aftermarket castings. Ported stockers are incredibly capable and often outperform as-cast aftermarket castings. www.advancedinduction.com would be my first choice (results in sig), but if you're a bit more budget-oriented, www.elliottsportworks.com is a good choice too.

Depending on your flywheel HP, you'll need larger injectors and a higher volume fuel pump. All of this assuming you have the necessary bolt-ons already.

After you add all this extra HP then you wont have any traction, you'll need tires, suspension, tuning... it's a whole production.

Head/cam and full bolt ons. Like said earlier stick with Lloyd Elliot or AI for the head/cam they are pros and have been rocketing LT1's into the 8's 9's 10's and 11's for years. You can get a lot of power out of a fairly mild cam with the custom grinds they have nowadays.

Makes me hate my CC306 =( Even though the car is awesome and fast as all hell, I feel like I could have just as much power with a much less wild cam. I miss my stock LT1. lol.

thanks for the link to advanced induction, looks promising. the only reason I considered the pro 1's is because I ran a set on a 496 bbc. and loved them. would be around the same price as the pro 1's

Ported stockers are better than as cast aftermarket.
The Advanced Induction ported stock castings are the right choice for most builds. Look at the results in my sig, mine is still an over 2ton street car with AC, ABS power seats and all. There is a guy around here with the same heads and cam in a race prepped Impala at 3800lbs that has gone 10.9
