Default intake manifold

there is a metal plate on the underside of the manifold held on by 4 bolts, what is this?
can it maybe be removed to clean the inside? would i need a gasket for it if i took it off?

No gasket. It's an oil baffle for the PCV system. Cleaning not necessary unless it's something other than oil.

No harm in taking it off and making sure its good. I locktite mine back in. I have found slug particles in there before on motors. Takes less than 5 min

And if you sand blast a intake clean its nearly impossible to get all the sand out of the intake. Not that i would do something that dumb....

I took mine off before I had the manifold powdercoated. It doesnt hurt anything to remove it and clean it. Just don't forget to put it back on lmao!

Not taking it off would just be stupid not knowing if anything is in there or not. None of you know what condition his old engine was in. Was there sluge in there or not. If the intake is already pulled off and no rush in getting it back on. Pull it off and check it out. Re install in the correct way and go on with peace of mind knowing there is no potential clogs. Just saying.
