Default Amsoil?

Has anyone had any personal experience with Amsoil? What make it special and how does it compare to premium brands such as Royal Purple or Mobile 1? if you've used it what are your personal opinions and experiences on it.

i use amsoil in my car, switched from castrol synthetic and it seems to idle quiter, and with lucas synthetic stabilizer i carry better pressure. other than that nothing spectacular. i would reccomend it though.

I don't think this forum would like me posting as direct link so google "Bobistheoilguy" that is the ONLY forum I would trust for oil information.

Just to give you a hint at how bad the information you will get here is go there and look up Lucas oil stabilizer and you will find it is nothing but very thick oil with no additives to speak of. So it thickens the oil and dilutes the additive package of whatever you are running for main oil. Meaning recommending it is wildly ignorant at best, as if you need the thickening you would be better off to choose a thicker weight and NOT dilute the additive package with that crap.

Mobil1 is good, Amsoil is really good, and you're gonna hear A LOT of mixed opinions on Royal Purple here.

But for the most part, oil is oil unless you're driving a race car. Run a good name brand with the right weight (5W30 or 10W30) and you'll be fine. Don't bother with any bullshit additives either, 96capricemgr speaks the truth.

K&N filters are doing far more harm to the engine with all the dirt they let in than running cheap or bad oil will do.

i have used Mobil 1, royal purple and Amsoil all 10w30, after several thousand miles of each my car seamed to run the best with the Amsoil (smother, held better oil pressure). so for the past 4 years that is all my car has seen for engine, trans, and diff.

I have 1.5 million dollars worth of high performance engines full of Mobil 1 right now and I sleep plenty good at night, even running them out to 5k service intervals with unknown drivers. I run Castrol GTX in my personal street cars since I know how to drive.

IMO, Amsoil is a waste of money.

Been using Redline for 15 years.

This is probably the best oil for racing and no cats. Note the zinc content:

ok. I figured I would get many differing opinions. I was looking for opinions based off personal experience and I got a few. I've always used Mobile 1 in my vehicles, only switching to Royal Purple for the break-in process of my rebuilt engine. But, I was surprised to hear the slandering of Lucas products. I was not aware of what I just read. I'll have to look into that. Thank you for the referral to bob the oil guy 96Caprice. I hadn't heard of that site before.

But explain why Amsoil is a waste in your opinion? And why would any true engine builder use gtx over mobil 1? That is the funniest **** I ever heard. Is it because its for high milage you use it?

I believe in changing oil every 3000 miles and do not care what type or brand of oil used. I had a car that I drove from 23K miles to 210K miles with no mechanical issues other than a bad warterpump. The insides of the valve covers were spotless because I faithfully changed my oil. Because of this routine I will never spend $60 to $80 for a simple oil change when I know conventional brands work well.

I run Redline in my diff and tranny, great stuff.

Mobil1 in my engine though, because I can't justify spending the extra money on something like that. ATF and Gear Oil don't have to be changed nearly as often as engine oil, so Redline or Amsoil is worth it to me for those things.

When you say conventional, are you referring to synth. or non-syth. Just wanting a little more detail on what you personally run in yours.

How many of you have paid the $20 for Used Oil Analysis to back up your beliefs in your chosen oils AND compared the results to other oils?

If you haven't then you are going on exactly what?????????????

I would get the analysis done on my race bike religiously. The sample would come back saying that the oil is like new. I kept extending out my drainage interval until the oil came back degraded. It is the same with cars. If you are changing your oil at 3K miles when it will still protect just as well at 5K then all you are doing is wasting money. There is no further protection provided until the oil starts to break down. A UOA is the only way to know how well your oil is doing bottom line.

I know BMW and mercedes only recommends using mobil 1 with their engines, I had switched mine from ams oil to mobil1 and for my older cars the srt and hondas all I used was royal purple, which IMO was the best. Those are differnt cars though, everything responds dif

Caprice im going off of facts and testing I have seen done with mobile one vs other brands. It was done with stock corvettes and they were all on the rollers for the same amount of time and temp. Mobile one was the only brand that had zero bearing wear and where the engine looked brand new still. When I get home I will look for the data.
