timing chain
ive used cloyes timing chains and gears and theyre all loose! the best combo i had was original big gear with new little gear and cloyes chain from oreilly, we tried 4 chains and all where loose. whats a good chain to use???

LT1 chains tend to have a little bit of slack. I remember being worried the first time i put one on. Mixing parts (chain, big, little gear) from different sets doesn't sound like a great idea. how much can you move the chain from side to side?

prob half an inch not exactly sure this was a while ago when we put it together i know we got it good enough to run with but its apart again and i wanna get it right but i know ive pulled 150xxx mile motors apart with better tension than what i had

I would measure what you have. If your not satisfied, I would go with a GM chain. But that's just me ha.

This post recommends using a oversize Cloyes crank sprocket to reduce the normal LT1 timing chain slack.

i have a pin driven opti and that post said to just replace cam gear but i have already done that and didnt work. cant i just buy the oversize crank gear with stock chain/cam gear??
