Default ltx engines

is there a good place to buy already built engines for the road? i have been looking at how much i need to spend on mine and have to pay someone to do it because i have no clue what to do. i figured it might be a little cheaper because i am not buying the parts and then paying someone to put them on. thank you

None I would trust, and I am aware of some that offer them so the "that I would TRUST" is the important part.

Best thing to do is find a broke down *** LT1 for 200$ out of a ragged camaro or firebird. Take it to a reputable engine builder and tell them what you want out of it. That is if you can't do the work or don't want to do the work yourself.

Then put heads and cam on it. You can add a couple hundred HP before you need to consider redoing the bottomend.

Agreed. The stock bottom end can take a beating - most of which is plenty enough for most LT1 owners looking for that little bit more. It also eliminates the possibility of shoddy machine work from shops who aren't LT1-competent.

Or shoddy machinework from shops that are reputed to be LT1 competent. I am shocked you missed that critical point because you learned about how bad the biggest LT1 crate motor vendor is, personally.

In truth the LT1 is just one of many millions of Chevrolet small block's. Any good machine shop should have no problem doing a rebuild. Just ask around to find a well recomended shop in your area. If you have a roundy-round track anywhere near you I would bet that you can find a good performance orientated shop. As with anything, good work costs money. Know your goals before you go shopping.

I have to admit I spend most of my time in the forced induction section but reading this thread makes me think one of the LT1 shops you must be talking about is the one I've seen in some of the magazines. Is it located not too far from me (Upstate NY is where I live) and the name of the shop starts with a 'G'? You guys seem to be going to some effort not to name the shop.

To the original poster, I bought a stock short block on ebay for $200, then had it shipped to my machinist. I ordered all the parts myself (pistons, rods, rings, cam, springs, retainers, pushrods(after my machinist provided the measurement) then took them over to the machinist. As the guys say, find some racers in your area and ask them who does their work. If you find a consensus and it's within your budget, go with that shop. Be sure to ask not only about the quality, but the timeline. There are several shops in Houston that do great work but some of them will take forever to complete 'your' stuff. They are too busy working on 'real race cars' or their own stuff or a buddies car or going all over the country racing their own stuff.

Hahaha... Well, what in the world happened? They were advertised and promoted in several magazines back a few years ago and all seemed to be positive. That's too bad if they are not delivering on what was promised. They have a great looking site and I love the premise (LT1 specific engines, cleaned, machined and ready to install) I guess we're left to our own resources again.

I'd be interested in selling my long block, I've been debating going LS. If you're interested shoot me a PM.
