Custom catted y pipe vs manufactured
I bought a set of pacesetter race headers and have a gmmg catback. I need a catted why for emissions. I was thinking of buying a pacesetter y pipe and splicing two cats in, or should I just buy a tsp? Only thing is I read on here that the tsp catted y pipes are not emmisions friendly, so does that make them only for visual inspection? One more thing because I have race headers can I get the egr and air tuned out and pass with these headers? I know its a lot to answer but I didn't want to put 3 different threads one after the other. Thanks guys

First off TSP does not make a catted y for lt1s as far as i know, just for LS1s. If you need the cat just for inspection then run one at the end of the y and call it a day. If you need cat/cats to pass the sniffer test then you have to run two cats no matter what year car with long tubes. The cats have to be pretty much right off the collectors for them to get hot enough to even worth properly and do there job.

Depends on how strict they are. Technically, regardless if you are running cats with a y-pipe they can fail you for not having a catalytic converter in the stock location. Tampering/relocating the catalytic converter(s) from the stock location is illegal.

It all depends on state but I know here in PA if your car fails an emissions test and you spend $150 on emissions related equipment and fail the second test you're then eligible to pay $50 for a waiver. You have to provide proof of the $150 spent (packing slips, recepits, etc) and the parts must be present on the car during the second failure.
There is a way to cheat the system and avoid paying the $150. Order parts online that you already have installed. For example, I have Jegs brand plug wires and NGK plugs on my car. Those two are eligible repairs under PA code so I would need to order another set of identical plug wires and plugs online. I then could use one of the two packing slips included as proof of repairs after test 2 and use the other packing slip to return the duplicate parts to the online retailer...
Or just pay a dude at Pep Boys off. I know a guy, it's much easier.

You also have to see it from the shop's side. If they are caught giving out bogus e-checks/inspections they can be fined heavily and lose their business. Most, if not all inspection stations have the laws posted in their waiting area. As far as waivers and such, all smog laws are state mandated and will vary.

Your best bet is give muffled a call. They got catted y-pipes for lt1s with long tubes. Plus they use the flowmaster y-merge. It's a great smooth transition. I felt some bottom end gain and no rasp opposed to the y pipe that came with my pacesetters
