Default Give me some ideas for fastest cam only options

So this winter ill be dropping the motor to fix my oil pan leak and i figure while its out ill go ahead and do something to it. Right now i have the cc503 cam. I have only managed to get a 13.5 with a 3.23 gear. Now i know when i do a 4.10 it will be considerably quicker but does anyone have some suggestions on a cam. My intentions are going for the quickest i can possibly be with only a cam. i have home gasket matched heads and full bolt ons. Or just go custom cam.

What else do you have done? Is it tuned? Full boltons are going to put you into high 12s. Do you have suspension done? You can have 600 hp but it doesn't mean crap if you cant put it to the ground.

How many miles are on your car? Any bigger of a cam you will be wanting to bulks your bottom end.

The 4.10 gears will help, but I am thinking you had traction problems on that 13.5 run.; a cc503 car should be in the 12s. You would also be faster if you would have stayed with the A4 and put a 3600 yank converter in. Custom cam would be the best choice, but that cc503 should run good.

You are not up to the full potential of that cam. My buddy ran 11.95 et with that cam only, 4000 stall and a 9" with 4:10's. 12.0x's should be the norm for that cam. If you can't get it down to where it needs to be, switching cams is not going to help.

The only thing i can think is that the gear is keeping it out of the power band?

Your car has mechanical issues if it is only trapping 101mph with a cc503. Or perhaps a bad tune. Your gears have nothing to do with it.

It should be 110-111. Your shift point should be around 6500 rpm also.

and if you bothered to research FIRST you would have found nobody reputable recommends just a gasket match. You made a fat spot in the middle of the combine intake manifold and head port completely screwing up airspeed.

On top of the fact I don't think anyone else calls gasket matched head and intake "cam only".

You also haven't told us where you are? If in Denver the 13s are still a little slow, but if Cecil MD is your home track the car is catastrophically slow for what is done already and a new cam isn't going to help any.

The 503 is a pretty good off the shelf cam, I wouldn't look at changing it till you get the thing to tickle 11s at a low altitude track.

Sure it does, but not by 8+mph on a minor gear change.

Where were you shifting? The car can be mechanically fine, but still trap pitifully low if you are short shifting every gear.

I also wouldn't assume the tune is spot on either. I picked up 30rwhp through an auto with a Dyno tune over a mail order.
