Default more gear?

Im still rockin the ten bolt for now with motive 3.90 gears and a 26'' tall tire. My cam is 236/244 608/609 110lsa. Im still working the bugs out on the shift points but it seems like it could use more gear. When i get my s60 should i get 4.56's? I dont have a accurate trap rpm yet on this motor and gear. I dont plan on spraying the car except for a baby 100 shot if i have some rpm/gear to make up on the top. My car prob weights 3100 and prob 380-400 hp

With a 7k rpm cap and converter slippage a 3.90 gear and 26" tires would put you at maybe 116mph, if that. That is mid-high 11's. If you get your car running low 12's on the motor at 108-109, when you spray it with a 125-150 shot you will top out at the 1000' mark. The only way i'd run a 4.56 gear, is if your car was a dedicated 1/8th mile car, or if you ran a different pcm without the rpm cap AND had a big enough cam/head combo to spin it high.

So i should prob stick with a 3.90 on the s60? I guess ill know more when i get it dialed in. I have no plans so ditch the lt1 computer/opti. I might get my heads and intake ported next summer or switch to a single plane if i can use my ASM monoblade tb. I just dont like to buy things twice.

Nobody likes to buy things twice but plans DO change over the years. When Tony S bought his car way back when, do you think he had any idea that some day it would be an Outlaw type of a car? If you set your car up right now to run 12's you'll have to change a few things to run 11's and then a whole bunch more to run 10's. If you gear your car to run low 10's/130mph at 7k rpm in 3rd, it won't run real good if you hit it with moderate power that can't get you there.

I'm just posting this as example, I have no idea what your final plans are.

Like you said the "plans" change but right now the goal is low 11's N.A. Im sure my car will end up under 3k lbs. But right now im more worried about getting the motor and tranny in sync before i go hunting for more weight loss

What RPM does your power peak? Not sure what tire you are running, but if it's a bias ply you also have to take tire growth into consideration. If you are going to remain N/A you may want to run a steeper gear. 4.56's are a little much IMO. This site has helped me quite a few times:

What SS said, you can actually run slower with the lower gears if you are way past your peak HP & Tq curve, Need to take that into consideration. I have seen this many times where one went with a steeper gear then ran a slower ET

Last time i went to the track i had my nitto r's on that i use on the street and the didnt hook very well. My M/T et streets were dry rotted with cracks in the tread. Im gonna get some new tires before i go to the track again. Possibly the m/t with the single line thru them or the hoosiers qtp. Not sure yet. I got my wideband today and this weekend im gonna upload the new tune MO sent me with adjusted shift points and datalog it. I want it shifting 6500 or above where my cam should make power not 5800. Thanks for ur help mo trying to get my pile going faster.

From reading through your post, my gut feel says go with 4.11's in the S60.

Has happened to me on two occasions. Running 4.10's going past power peak. Changed gears and gained 1.5mph through the traps. Running 3.73's, was long before power peak crossing the traps. Changed to a 4.56 and gained over 2mph.
