Unhappy Damn. Brand new rear main seal is leaking.

Let the hawk sit over the past 4 days. Pulled it out only to find a 8" puddle of thick clear fluid on the garage floor. From what I remember I installed the Felpro seal dry too. What's weird is the fluid was clear.

This is awflul. I have a dyno/tune session this Monday.

No. It's too far back and in the dead center.

This is what I don't get. I wiped it up first with my finger. It looked clear. Then wiped it up with a rag. It was thick but didn't look like oil. We had it up on the lift and he saw nothing leaking from anywhere.

I'm stumped on this one.

It's probably just clean oil even after the engine was heat cycled for the first time. Either way it's bad news. Should have went with the rubber seal instead of the teflon.

I went to my brother-in-laws house last year and every night I'd pour about a cup of oil under his car. In the evening he'd be out cleaning the oil and jacking up his car to look for leaks. I did this for about a week and then just quit. Maybe someone doing this to you.

LMAO! That's so f'n cruel! But no, I wish someone was doing that.

Other than losing oil, is there a downside to this?

a rear main seal wont normally leak with the engine off unless you have the engine overfull with oil. The oil level will be below the rear main seal when off.

I would of said clutch fluid(aka brake fluid) as well. Other then that i dont know. Even if its clean oil you can tell its oil.

Engine oil isn't clear. Maybe it is jack oil. I don't see how you can screw up the RMS. It's too easy to install.

I'm really thinking it's that brake fluid from the clutch. Like stated if the engine is off there won't be any oil leaking above the pan unless it is overfilled.

Clean the ever living snot out of the bottom of the engine and surrounding area, drive car, see if you can pinpoint any leaks.
Take your inspection cover off trans and feel around in there as well.

It could be the oil pan. My mechanic had to dump some oil to seal the threads on the Moroso pan. From experience they have a tendency to put a little more oil than needed.

It's either that or the rear of the oil pan.

Did that right after I checked my sticker gasket.

Was thinking the dreaded rear intake leak but I used Ultra copper on the back and no longer have the EGR. It's all clean so far.

Hopefully it's just the oil pan.

Motor oil isn't clear, and will not turn clear. It has to be something else.

Could it be spilled Machining oil, like what you use with a drill press? That is fairly thick and clear.

If you have the moroso it may be the pan. It would not be the first time I have seen them leak. All of the fittings in mine leaked. I used thread sealer to cure this. That’s the easy one to fix. The tough one is if one of the welds is leaking. This is also a common problem with them. What pump and pickup did you use?

I'm in the same boat. I primed mine on the engine stand until oil was coming out of all 8 rocker arms (about 30 minutes worth of priming). Had no leaks during priming, but it's leaking from the rear now that it's in the car running.

It's definitely oil..... brand new, beautiful oil. It doesn't seem to be the rear main seal. It drips from the bottom of the U (or half circle) of the rear of the oil pan, but it's not wet between that point and the crank. I think it's coming from passenger side top of the oil pan.

I don't see it dripping until the engine kills. Then it drips slowly about an hour or until it cools off I guess.

Not trying to hijack, just sharing your frustration. (but if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears)
