Default Identifying LT1 or LT4 top end.

So my story with my car is. Guy A pulled the motor from a junk yard and rebuild it with an LT4 top end. Claimed it made 400hp. He sold to guy B who dynoed it and said it pulled 375 first 388 2nd and 402 3rd pull. Then sold it to guy C who sold to me. Now guy C says it deff feels alot perkyer and more power then a normal LT1. Now i got a few friends to look at the car and 1 said it dosnt look stock cuz the heads arnt a brozney type finish. More a silver. 2 said they couldnt tell and the 4 who i got to put in my opti (lol) says it looks stock to him. My problem. I need to replace the Intake gasket. What do i buy LT1 or LT4 gaskets? Is there a clear way to tell or is it simply pull it off and see what i got. Now the car can sit np. So pulling it off then getting ordering the right gaskets not an issue.

I doubt it's an lt4 , sounds like a bunch of people that don't know **** about it . Depending on what the motor originally came from the heads will either be iron (caprice/impala) or aluminum (firebird/Camaro/corvette ) there will be a stamp on the head under the oil fill cap that will say (lt4) IF it is such, and the intake will be red from factory.

Ok ill take a look at that in the morning. Thanxs for the feed back. Again sry for any questions that might seem too newbieish. Just looking for a helping hand. I did see that site and it shows an LT4 intake thats not red on it too.

Don't forget the ultra grey silicone for the front and rear china wall tops..(intake to engine seals) .. Buy a Haynes manual too.

if there is any doubt pull a valve cover and check the casting number of the heads, although unless someone wanted to keep it real hush about being an lt4 intake to go with the heads and blasted the paint off then its probably the run of the mill lt1

I'm sure it is just an LT1, i cant believe people are still getting boners when they hear LT4, which is of course the reason guy A said it was an LT4 even if it wasn't

as for the head gaskets you should get some impala HG's cause it will bump up your compression to 11:1...unless you don't want to buy 93octane all the time

I plan on building up the motor in time but with guy A saying one thing it helps to know what rly is under the hood if it was sandblasted witch im doubting.

On a side note question when i do pull it apart to see. would it hurt it to have the intake off and valve cover off with it sitting in my drive way hood closed? Ied cover the motor with rags. I dont have a garage to keep the car in untill i get the proper gaskets. With the holidays being right around the corner ima wait till things slow down before doing this. Don't have the time atm
