Default stock rods and crank

I have a 97 camaro which made just over 400 rwhp on 5 lbs of boost it already has j.e. forged pistons but I now want to run 12 lbs of boost and add 100 or 150 shot to it will the stock crank and rods hold up to this if it is tuned properly with very little or any detonation or is it wise to upgrade to some forged rods and crank now the spray will be used only 6 or 7 times a yr.

if the rod bolts dont let go, the rod's sure will. PM rods only can do so much ~400 is about the safe limit.

keep it safe and do it right, rather than break something and force yourself to spend a whole ton more.

a set of stock rods with upgraded bolts and shot peened will hold to ~550 fwhp.

You're going to be asking stock crank and rods to hold what.......650-700 HP with the 150 shot. Only 6-7 times a year. My bet would be that the first time you hit the switch the rods and or crank will explode. Even the 12 pounds of boost will probably kill it. You're way, way over what is reasonable to expect from a stock bottom end. I predict your repair bills are going to go real high, real fast if you don't upgrade to a well balanced forged set of components.

assuming he makes another 15 hp per # of boost that puts him in the 605 hp range with a 100 shot, and 655 with a 150.

The biggest question is what CR are you running?? cam? ported heads?
Things like these can change how much a rotating assembly will handle.

You'll need a fully 4340 all forged rotating assembly to deal with that type of power and splayed billet 4 bolt mains and a half filled block.

Half filled block huh? tell me why you would need that. Especially on a stock stroke small block

I'd fill it up with race gas and let it eat. Turbo cars are pretty easy on engine parts and if you do scatter it, you can get another used stock shortblock pretty cheap and be back where you started. I'd also try and make more of the power with the turbo rather than the bottle. A 50 shot will cool it off real nice and probably make close to 100 depending on how good your intercooler is.

Why are you limiting your RPM range to 5000RPMs? What's the point?

stock rods with arp bolts will take you to 500-525fwhp and 6500rpm.........your application id run stock crank, set of 4340 H Beams and a good set of 2618 forged pistons.....with a steel top ring.......if it was in your budget a 4340 crank would be good.......but its not a must
