Default Lookin for more power. Part 1

Looking to squeeze every last ounce of power from this new engine. I have a few ideas that may give me a few more but I figure I'd start at the begining, the intake.
Here we have a dirty K&N not cleaned since 1997. Note the acorn fragments. While in hibernation a chipmunk decided to make a home in my ram air hood. I tried removing most of it but it's still coming out little by little. Yes, it dyno'd with it like this. Solution, clean air filter and nuts. Maybe remove plastic bars on intake cover. Potential gain, ~0.25 rwhp

I've hear rumors that an 85mm LSX MAF can give you gains. Problem is, it's incompatible with this ram air intake. Solution, replace with 93 corvette intake and with Speed Density. Maybe eliminate any turbulence from the slight downward turn between the MAF and TB. Speaking of the throttle body, was thinking of replacing this 58mm BBK TB with a 58mm TPIS TB that I can get my hand on for cheap as well. Potential gain, ~5 rwhp

Well, you won't really see any gains removing the plastic bracing so leave it.

In regards to the MAF, you will onyl see about 5-10hp or so AT MAX without it on a N/A setup. Problem is a speed density tune is a PITA for ANYONE to setup properly. And I mean properly, as in having it act decent with weather and barometric changes as well.

I don't know what you mean by a '93 'vette intake??? I assume you are just referring to the smooth bellows?

Lastly, you will see no difference in going with one 58mm TB over another. And actually, since there is no "standard" for where the bores sit, you may cause a mismatch between where the throttle bores exist on your intake vs the throttlebody.

Those vettes had intakes similiar to mine but the opening matched the TB. If I can get my hands on one of those I can sandwich a 85mm MAF in between.

The question is what is being used to smooth out the bellows?

Why do you want more power? 424 to the wheels is a great number for an LE2 setup.

At that power level a 2 1/2" dual system with an X pipe would be more beneficial. Or at least a 3 1/2" single.

I'm looking into this. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how it's set up and how it works. And if it does can I get an 85mm MAF onto it.

The Chris1313 Def works and on most cars they see about a 2-3mph increase at the track. Problem is youll have to switch out to a LS1 style CAI and ditch the firehawk stuff.

Was looking at this setup with the chris1313. The question I have is, does the base underneath the 104mm lid bolt onto a LT1 4th gen?

No you need to modify it. There are a couple threads on how to do it.

I thought that i could pick up a factory ram air box somewhere i could run it for awhile at the track, before i would do the mods to accept the chris1313 system. This way i could see what gains are what.(not really scientific i know). From the research i have done this ram air is well worth the effort for 2-3 mph!!! Right!!! The factory ram air box is very very hard to find one!!! There was a 18 page thread on exterior engine about this setup. Search: is the chris1313 worth it? Anyone know were i can get a factory or aftermarket ram air box???

Why the hell would you change to a 93 intake just to delete the maf?

Just delete it...

If you're not maxing it out, you wont see a gain regardless besides being harder to tune.

You should have started on the inside if you want to maximize every last HP.
