**VID** LT1 backfire at idle HELP!!

Exclamation **VID** LT1 backfire at idle HELP!!

Alright I've been battling this backfire ever since the install of my long tube headers. I've got band clamps on it except for where the y pipe meets the exhaust, which is a u bolt. None of the wires are touching the headers, and the plugs are all tight. I do understand those could still be an issue. The clearance everywhere is good, the exhaust isn't hitting anything.

What is causing this bang?



Anyone have an idea?

Are you absolutely positive none of the wires are burnt? Are the wires going to the right plugs? Double and triple check it all. Seems like a simple misfire problem.

When I put my LT's on I burnt a few wires. The one that gave me the most trouble was the 2nd plug on passenger side. It was burnt under the header so I couldn't see it till i got under the car in the pitch black

i would first guess a plug problem....cracked plug...miss gaped....wire order...ect check those first.

You have crossed a plug wire or have a bad wire or plug.

I would check this also its a easy mix up i have done it myself .

If your plug wires still have the metal shields on the ends of the boots take them off. This caused serious misfires on my car when I put headers on it.

Just another thing to check.

Definitely plug/wire related. If you have triple checked that the plug wires are correct and the boots are tight, look under the hood with the engine running in the dark. Any spark jumping that isn't a blue coronal glow is not normal.

Alright, that was my original thought as well. I need to get this car going so I need to get wires and plugs from the local parts store (Advance and Autozone are down the street). ANy suggestions on wires and plugs? Do I need to get special boots for the optispark end of the wires?

Yes they have to be LT1 wires to fit on the Opti, I bought the OTVC wires from a sponsor on here Love them

i run autolite 106's cheap and work great. theyll know the wires you need

If your wires are good and you installed the headers with the plugs in the car you cracked a plug.

The wires are kind of old, and I did have plugs in while installing so I'll change the plugs and wires just to be safe. I want to go over the valve covers, would I be able to get the optispark boots for wires that you have to cut?

Summit sells them you need the Taylor standard cut to fit 90 degree sbc wires, opti end kit, dei heat shield boots, and ididit wire looms for centerbolt valve covers. Get a can of spray silicone grease and the Taylor plug wire tool. I don't have the part numbers in from of me or I would give them to you. It is cheaper to do the wires like that instead of ordering the lt1 kit. I have done a lot of these for people and myself.

I would have to say, stay away from anything you have to cut/mod yourself .. A run of the mill wire set or the MSD set will do fine..

I still have 2 on plugs 5 & 7. What problem did you see on them, and which cylinders did you see them on?

I run DEI sleeves on 3 and 6 (Pacesetter headers with AIR fittings 72C2235).

After looking at my plugs I'm going to just switch the plugs first and see what happens...if that doesn't solve it then new wires it is..
