Default Do I need new pushrods?

I am going to be putting in a "hotcam" kit this winter and would like to know if it is necessary to replace the pushrods when I do the swap? The car has been well maintained and has 69xxx miles on it. I don't really see what could be the problem using the stockers, I just want to be sure.

To be honest, the only way to know is to measure for length once the cam is in..

I would still check for proper geometry and to be certain length is right .

You replace them as well as the springs and if I still recall a "hotcam" also involves a rocker upgrade to 1.6's.

Period.

Since your stock springs are only good to about .480 lift and the Hot Cam has .525 you will need a spring change also. That may or may not involve new shims to get the installed height correct. Depending on the shims you'll need the pushrod length may or may not be correct. It would be a wise investment to buy the spring height micrometer and the pushrod length checking tool and a Magic Marker.

That's going to be the only way you'll know for sure. Anything else is going to be a guess and that could be an expensive assumption. IMHO

edit:
Oops, sorry.........I just noticed that you said hot cam "KIT". Most of the above information still applies though.

However, IF the PR lenght doesn't change from stock once all is said and done, you CAN reuse the stockers.. The 93's PR's are hardened from factory , I have personally verified this.

PR length should not change as in most cases rockers that are adjustible will make up the difference but again geometry is very important and regardless of what is "verified" its still a 20 yr old part that is considered a matience item.

If the budget is too tight not to allow for new pushrods, do yourself a favor and stop as the cost of getting a chip burned may be too much for him too.

I don't own the car and personally have no vested interest other then seeing the guy happy when he goes faster.

It's up to him and what his budget can handle.

Cost was not really a consideration, and I already have a chip burned, thanks. However, wasting money on something that does not need to be changed is a concern. I will get the tool just to be sure. Besides, since when are pushrods a maintenance item? I don't recall seeing that in my owners manual to change at a certain mileage

Pushrods are not a maintenance item.
