*IF* the above production breakdown is correct, then no, some had stock exhaust. (I've never seen one). I'm almost certain the BASE SS package was mainly appearance options; wheels, tires, badging, ram air hood, spoiler...that's it. All the real goodies (exhaust, hurst shifter, level 2 suspension, auburn diff, ect.) were extra cost options.

Not all the GM/Camaro colors were options on the SS cars. There were 5 colors to choose from.

According to SLP's stats only 5 other '96 SS cars had the same color and options as mine. Two of them were wrecked early on. I kick myself for not getting the R1 option.

Factory paint has stood up like a champ. The car spent most of its life outside. I started getting some massive clear coat peel a few years ago. Funny thing is it was in places that no longer had the original factory paint. The SLP hood for instance, started peeling on top of the air induction. I was hit on the drivers quarter panel, it was indeed taken to a GM dealership, paint lasted for several years, but now it is one of the worst areas with clear coat peel. When I bought my SS I was talked into Teal. I wanted it white, but it was pointed out to me that flat colors like white/red/black do not flatter contours very well. No regrets going with this color.

I'd be pissed about the over $10K in depreciation for only driving it 2000 something miles Makes me wonder if the LT1 cars will ever be worth ****; maybe anther 20 years. Guess you got to get a LT4 or SLP LS1 car for it to be "investment". All the more reason to mod them I suppose. The LS1 SS/Firehawk cars hold their value a lot better despite being more common, this one has 9K on it and it's still $27.5...kinda depressing:

IMO f-bodys will never be worth anything. Too many of them. The SLP options were nothing more than trinkets regarding resale value. It may have been great with the SS novelty some years ago, but it means nothing anymore. I also believe the sports/muscle car enthusiast market is dangerously close to Dodo bird extinction.

SLP broke down all the SSs by options and colors. My friend Dave, who owns a '97 SS, has a option and color breakdown directly from SLP. I've seen it myself.
And yes, SLP did make SSs with stock exhaust. Dave's '97 is a black auto SS with no SLP options (I know that sounds weird), so it has stock exhaust. Later, he went to the dealer and ordered the Goodyears that were made available with the R1 option.
