Default Which header gaskets to use with Pacesetter LT's? Searched...

Sorry for asking a question probably 100 guys have asked, but I've searched around and can't find a solid answer, some say one works, some say they don't.

I've seen suggestions for Fel-pro 1470 , 1406, Mr gasket 5903, Remflex 2007, ect... What is your experience / suggestions? Will pretty much any of those work, just pick one?

I've got Fel-pro MS95585 , these are all the auto parts store had in stock but the port holes look a bit small. Will these work or what should I be using? The car is a 93 z28, LE2 aluminum heads.

Should I be using any copper gasket sealer between the heads/gasket/headers or just trust the gasket? I used it on my first header install and it seemed to work good, little messy though.

Also anyone notice on the Pacesetters how much the welds protrude into the port holes on the flange? I asked this in my other thread but that just seems like a restriction.. should I not worry about it or should I grind those suckers down smooth? The only thing that sucks is the coating is so nice and the welds are coated so I don't want to open up an opportunity for rust.

I'm running fel-pro 1406 gaskets and I ground the welds down. No problems so far. I did have to fight the slip fit collectors and band clamps, but I've now got it under control with stepped clamps and orange silicone so far so good.

Just don't use the mr gasket copper ones, they sucked and leaked horribly even with all the bolts tight.

my ps gaskets have worked for 3 1/2 years lol, they look nice but dont expect that to last, within a week mine were starting to look crappy, pretty good headers, money well spent imo they have lasted a long time, do you do your search on tech? because its alot better to search tech of of goggle

I searched google and ls1tech, found 1 good thread but nothing came up about the welds in the tubes, and the gasket info was confusing, everyone just argues.

Yeah the PS gaskets look good lol but everyone says not to use them. Found out NAPA does have the 1406 gaskets for 23 bucks so I'll just go with those.

The welds in the tubes are bothering me... I wish someone had a comparison with HP numbers with the headers untouched and with the welds smoothed. I don't see it making a HUGE difference or anything, but I just don't like the idea of having that restriction straight off the heads.

You're saying the headers started looking crappy after a week? Did you have the painted ones or the ceramic coated? Crappy how?

My welds looked exactly like yours and I didn't feel comfortable with it either so I ground the welds down. It took me about an hour or so to do both headers and its worth it for peace of mind. just be careful not to grind all the way through.

I got 1/2 way through porting the first header and gave up, it's taking wayyyy too fuggin long. I'm using an air grinder, I've tried several burs, grinding stones, nothing works it takes about 45 minutes per port.

As much as I hate it I'm just going to put them on as is... but WOW, compared to my Dynatechs these ports are so restricted...

I did mine with grinding stones from harbor freight in an old drill and it didn't take that long. It did eat up the stones though.

I wonder if it would be better to buy the cheaper painted ones, clean up the welds and then send them off to get coated. Does anyone know what it costs to get a set of headers coated in the USA as opposed to the done in China versions.

You should have sent them back instead of using a grinder. Hell I'd still try. Call them up and tell them you are not satisfied.
