Valve isn't bent so the head is staying on. I got lucky as hell and it happened cruising along at around 2000 rpm.

Wicked & Speed Demon,

If you don't mind my asking, what model # are the PAC springs you've had fail?

I've got a set of nitrided 1519s ready to go in with a different cam, and since you've brought it to my attention, I've found more than a dozen threads on PAC spring failures -- and it doesn't seem limited to one model. PAC claims to have narrowed the faulty springs down to 2 specific batch numbers circa Oct. 2010, if that is to be believed.

Not sure whether it's worth the risk of trashing my valves/guides/pistons. Thinking I should probably send these back and stick with some other brand of dual-coils. Too bad I already bought a beehive micrometer, but that's a small price to pay...

Being a beehive has nothing to do with it.

I'll take your micrometer off your hands, I seem to have misplaced mine in my move up to WA.

Are you running Duals or Beehives?

I'm assuming duals because of your cam...

i run a dual with a damper on my LT...its a 1200 series endurance spring from PSI.....runs #220 seat with light valvetrain parts it will control the valve properly well over 8000rpm.....

my LS2 i run a mild beehive its a 1500 series endurance spring from PSI.....runs #125 seat....will control the valve with stock parts other than the spring to 7000 ive been shifting it at 6700

******* heads are taking forever... machine shop that was empty when I dropped them off suddenly has so much work to do they can barely pick up the phone. Haven't even touched them since I dropped off the valves last monday. I understand that there's a foot of snow on the ground, but it'll be melted next week when I'd like to see how tolerable my new neighbors are

That sucks - I know what it feels like to get the feeling a shop will only get to your parts when they are ready and feel like it.

It took me 2 motors and over a year to find a good shop and a great machinist. In my area if you don't get the motors built over the winter, you will have to wait forever since all the dirt track guys feel the need to blow their junk up every other week.

And heads are done... shaved a total of 18.5 grams off the intake valve side. retainers, locks and valves are only 120.5 grams total now, not bad for a long 2.08 stainless valve. Car will be driving around today Will post pics of it going back together later this afternoon.
