Default Broke a valve spring. Not looking good@

Broke a valve spring. Car is being towed home in a a hr or so. I was driving home last night doing 35mph. I pulled the valve cover off and saw the #4 intake valve spring broken in 3 different places. The rocker arm is broke and the valve seal is toast.the Push rod is sstraight but the tip is smashed in. The valve was still in the guide and I can move it up and down freely, it also spins.
When I get the in the garage, I will pull the plug, and intake. If everything looks good, then I will see if the cylinder will hold air. I'm really hoping for the best, but I'm thinking the piston is gone. The valve wiggles in the guide more the I feel it sh!!ould..
It has been extreamly cold lately, and every morning the car is covered in ice. I do let the engine warm before driving. I don't know why this happend. The motor was running great and was built with top of the line equipment. I set everything up in spec.
**** happens I guess!

So far its looking pretty bad. Bent valve and cracked valve guide so the head is ruined. I'll pull the head tomorrow. I'm sure the lifter is broke. Hopefully the piston is OK.

I was going to use PAC springs in my Z28's top-end build. Hearing about these failures is really making me think twice.

Yes run duals! Better safe then sorry. Ify short block survives then I'll be bolting on a new head and dual springs.

I got lucky. Exhaust spring broke but the retainer stayed put so the valve stayed up. Like you I was running the spring I was told to by the cam guy and they were set up correctly.

That's the problem. I bought a cam from fti and they said 1518's which didn't work. They won't give out the cam specs so I either have to guess at a correct spring or pull the cam and have in doctored.

They won't give out cam specs? That's horseshit. So, you have to guess at springs and PTV clearances or break out the clay?

Sounds like a crappy way to do business.
