Thumbs up A Few Questions Before I Start My Cam Swap

Im getting ready to do my Cam swap, So i figured i should change out the timing chain while im in there since i have 138,000 miles on it..
So whats the best low budget timing chain to go with?

Is something like this any good?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Timing-Chain...item337142ce48

I just Wanna make sure i get the good stuff before i go and Order..

Also is there any other stuff i should gather together before we start tearing everything down for the Cam swap?
Right now i have Pushrods, RR's, Lifters, Crane Spings, Cam, And LT Headers..

And would Dropping The Entire K-Member be the Easiest way?

Thanks Guys!

This is a good read- https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...eups-faqs.html

I thought I was going to do a cam swap and it has turned into so many "while im there" type of stuff and it will nickle and dime you to death. Stick to a plan or you'll spend every penny you have. They say the average cam swap is $1200. Mine has turned into .030 over to milling the heads and replacing every used part. I'm up to $2,500 and I have yet to rebuild the trans, upgrade suspension and do the body work.

Yes, drop the k member. put the rear tires on a spare set of wheels like this...

Thats just imo, it worked great and gave me extra clearance from the rear bumper hitting when i lifted the front end with the cherry picker.

As for the timing chain, its not something you want to cheap out on. I went with a cloyes, its great for my power level. Plus you can't exactly return stuff on ebay. I like being able to see it (incase what ever if its damaged) I'd get it at local parts store if I were you. again imo...
Hope that helps!!

FWIW, I did my cam swap without dropping the k member. That's a lot of work just to drop the oil pan. There is enough space between the k member and the oil pan to drop it down enough to take the timing cover off without ripping your gasket. And the cam will slide right out if you move the radiator and condenser. I also went with cloyes for my timing chain. Awesome quality!

Cloyes was the OEM supplier, at that mileage I would look at a new stock chain, if I wanted to get fancy I might go with the Cloyes oversize crank gear to tighten the chain a little.

Stock would be just fine.
The highest wear item is the crank sprocket. The Cloyes oversized part to take some slack out is S505 (works with the stock chain).
The second wear item is the chain. The Cloyes p/n for stock chain equivalent is C506.
Inspect the cam sprocket too, but it's not likely you'll see wear on it.

Agreed. Lift the condensor out of place and there is plenty of room to slide the cam out.
