Hey just after some time I got back to working on the engine. Got the number one and two piston in place. I torqued them down with some green plastigauge and took the caps back off. I did not move the crank while i have everything torqued. Anyways here where my readings
Rod #1
Bigger than .001 inches on the gauge aka around .0008
Rod #2
Right at .001 inches on the gauge.
Back ground on the car is its a .010 under crank across the board. Running .010 bearings. What could cause this to be so tight. The engine is going to see some drag racing/autox/track days so I want nothing that tight. Even tho that is to tight for spec. My manual says .0012-.0037 inches. Talking to road race buddies and they have done their Lt1 around the .002 inch mark.
So what could I do to fix this? Crank need to come out and give it another turn. Going to check some of the other pistons. This just threw a red flag to me since it is my first engine build.
also noticed the clearance is spelled way wrong in the title.

What about the mains ? Plastigauge is not the best method but at least you are doing it. Journals need to be checked with an outside Mic and rods need to be checked with the bolts lubed/ torqued and bearings installed. Sounds like you are about to get in way over your head, either take all the stuff back to the machine shop and tell them you only have .001 tell them to measure everything and make it right,or get .001 under bearings. Even then it still might not be enough from what you have described. If someone gave me **** like that I would not be very nice about it,totally unacceptable.

Mains where in spec. Yeah its not the most accurate method but I am a poor college student. Yeah I have a buddy with the good tools. Either he is bringing them to my house or I will take them there. I have a miata as a DD so moving the engine around can be a pita sometime. Going to measure again and go from there. This engine was supposed to be done two weeks ago.
