Default vig 2800 stall back to stock?? :(

Okay im going to try to post this in the mod section because it seems that this is the only place that gets replies, plus this could be considered a mod, although a crappy one. Alright guys, I have my 4L60e pulled out of my 97 z28 because I thought it was causing a bad vibration my car had (turned out to be the damper) anyhow the stator was worn down pretty bad so I'm replacing it. Now I know it's recommended that you get a new torque converter when you do a transmission job, but I currently have a vig 2800 stall converter and really don't want to go back to a stock converter nor do I want to shell out the money for another higher stalled converter. My question is, if the stator was worn down shouldn't that mean that the inside splines of the converter were doing the grinding and should be okay? I have pics of the inside of my converter and it looks like it's still good. And if I do end up going back to a stock converter what performance losses should I expect to see? It's just my daily driver, and will likely never see the strip except maybe once. Thanks!

You can't get it freshened up for real cheap? Call P.I. and ask them.

Flush it yourself, strain the fluid, see if anything comes out..

Ironoutlaw, what exactly do you mean by freshen up? And I have already strained the fluid And it was clean as could be

Most converter manufacturers will let you send the converter back to them. They open it up check all the tolerances and clean it before welding it back together. Also a good time to adjust the stall speed if desired. This is cheaper than buying a new converter, but also assures you it's good to run on a fresh trans.

Find a local converter shop, cost me $125 to get a cut and clean, the only right way to do it. Anything else is a waste of time.

If I remember right I paid PI 250 a few years ago plus shipping to go through my converter.

OK I found the E-mail from them, this was in 2010...

The cost is $225.00. To do that all you need to do is ship it to us.
Just make certain you include your name, phone number and a note telling us why you sent it in. After we inspect the converter we will call you (usually a couple days after it arrives here).

The price is up a little, to $262.50 for a cut and clean from Precision Industries. It is, however, probably the best choice in your situation
