Probably the caps. I had to cut off a section of my dipstick tube for it to clear.

I cut the tube and even the STICK did not fit.

I ground it up slowly with my dremel until it was basically nothing and it broke off in the pan I couldn't get the pan off without dropping the kmember and transmission and I couldn't find the piece in the pan with a borescope so I threw a super strong magnet on the bottom of the pan, said eff it and called it a day.

No problems.

same here..............i run the howards billet caps and had to cut my dip tube

Maybe they are not consistent with what or how they put the oil control features in?
The windage trays that go on the main caps cover the sump area quite a bit more than the built in one in the tray. I think it was a good 1.5" more over the sump than the canton.

Exactly, there is hardly ANY windage control with the canton built in piece.

IIRC mine wasn't like that......i remember the windage screen being quite a bit over the sump area so either that or my motor just doesnt have windage issues in the first place cause ive never had problems with this pan on my 383
