Default Canton 242T oil pan users

Wanted to see if everyone is happy with this pan and it's windage tray.

I assume that the stock windage tray is no longer used due to the Canton pan having one build in?

I don't think anyone is happy with it, search, see what I mean.

I believe guys have even tried running 5 quarts instead of the rated 6 and it still had issues.

Even their Gen 1 stuff the windage control is terrible and guys endup cutting it all out so they can put something functional in.

Why do you want to put on an aftermarket pan?

I hate it, I'm pretty sure my bearings have taken a bit of a beating thanks to it's shitty oil control. My builder wanted me to run 7 quarts even though its only rated for 6, but I only run 5.5. Every corner I take semi-hard, or if I rev it real high and launch it hard, the oil pressure drops to near zero for a split second. I just took a corner the other day so hard that all 4 tires were squealing and the oil pressure was at dead-zero for 2 seconds. If I toast the motor, Canton is getting served.

Well this sucks, I've already gotten the pan but haven't installed it. I purchased it a few years ago when I started the engine project which has been on hold for a few years and am now finally getting time to work on it.

Reason for purchase is I plan to do some road racing with the car and was told by some locals and my engine builder to get the Canton 242T for that application because it has the trap doors and oil baffles. Recently I did a little searching it seems some have windage problems with them.

LS2Pontaic, are the problems you have due to the trap doors and baffles? Doesn't sound like windage if your cornering hard when the pressure drops.

I run a milodon louvered windage tray with the canton screen thrown in the garbage. I don't see how their design could have passed in-car testing... obviously it never was.

Does the Milodon tray mount on the main studs/bolts or in the pan?

If I have to run a different windage tray and ditch the Canton windage screen that is fine with me I guess, I just don't want any oiling issues. The engine is on the stand and it would be much easier now than later with it in the car.

I wish I wouldve went with a Kevko or milodon. I havent had a ton of issues other then it seems to leak a little. But the windage tray design is pretty poor. I couldve saved $100 and went kevko and had a better pan. Its one of those I got caught up in name brand things.

Not happy with windage tray. With a 3.875 crank I am still able to run 5.5 quarts fine. At six quarts windage becomes a problem.

Retarded idea. It will only multiply your problems even more and windage will occur sooner.

In order for it to stick you have to prove your problem was addressed to Canton and Canton attempted to fix the issue. Just suing them because your motor blew will get you laughed at.

So am I best off ditching the Canton internals and put a different windage tray in? I've still got the stock one that I could probably make fit to the ARP main studs. Anyone have an aftermarket tray PN that will work? I just need to be sure I don't have any windage issues once installed in the car.

not sure why all these problems are showing up but i run the 242t slightly modified with no issues at all......i run 6qts just because of drain back issues out of my heads.....runs fine 55psi at 8k+ rpm steady with no apparent windage issues.....

I had to pull out the canton built in windage tray and put in a moroso one off my main caps to fix my windage issues.

Can people on both sides of this debate post pics of the inside?

Maybe they are not consistent with what or how they put the oil control features in?

i have a canton pan. Not sure if its the 5 or 7 qt tho. I bought it from a buddy and it was in a box that said 5qt.

when i put it on (w/canton pickup, etc) my dipstick reads very very low til I have 7 qt's in it. its a deep pan and has to be a 7qt form the size of it and how low it sits.....

or ive got it way over filled...??

The only problem (so far?) I've had with mine is that I cannot run a dipstick with it. That may be the pan or my main caps (machinist decided to use traditional SBC caps) or a combination of the two.

Other than that it has been fine. I don't have any leaks and I have so much oil pressure I'm surprised the pan doesn't blow off :p
