Default 383 Rebuild Advice

Hey guys just wanting some direction on which way to go with my motor.Car currently has a good running 383 but i would like something a bit "healthier". Current combo on car is:

Unkown brand CNC ported heads 57cc chambers
Mystery baby cam
Callies forged crank
SRP -16cc pisons -.015 in the hole
Ported intake
Full bolt ons
12 bolt with 4.10 gearing
6 speed car

The car runs and drives fine but the oil pressure will drop to 0 for a second or two every once in a while after a WOT pull or after coming off the freeway and immediately coming to a stop on the off ramp. With that build and a super thin head gasket i could get a maximum of about 10.5 to 1 comp ratio from my crappy calc. I'm debating on just throwing it back together and calling it good or tossing in a new set of slugs and having it rebalanced and new bearings etc for peace of mind. I guess I'm just trying to justify rebuilding a pretty good motor haha. Could it just be a high volume oil pump emptying the pan or something? Also how much fun am i leaving on the table by leaving the comp ratio that low?

Thanks for any advice!

it sounds like you sucking all the oil out of the pan. they probably used a hv oil pump. i would figure what you have then go from there. have the heads flowed and have the numbers run on the cam.

The motor you have is done completely wrong from a performance standpoint so if you do choose to rebuild you need to establish a budget and goals. Your oil pressure problem however is probably because the oil pump pickup has fallen off - a common problem.

unless you want to run a blower, I'd get rid if the dished pistons.

Have you run the car at the track or anything to know how it performs now?

With the probably loose pickup you can't go run it now so if you don't know how it performs now is NOT the time to.

It would just help establish how much has to change to get to a goal.

You might look at splaying the main caps unless you have already. Couldn't hurt at all.

A significant cost that certainly isn't worth it for the OPs goals. Better off putting that money into the valvetrain/drivetrain!
