Default Programming help please

Ok I now have my car back and it needs to be tuned. It is a 95 z28 so I ordered the tunercats program to tune it with and for some reason my car has an obd2 computer and obd2 plug. So needles to say I cant tune my car. I have already paid $80 more for the files for the obd 2 but now I need the program for obd2. Any suggestions? I have already spent alot of money and cant use it!!!

Unless its a different pcm in the car, you do not have an obd2 pcm. I also have a 95 and it uses the obd2 connector but is still obd1.

Are you SURE its an obd2 pcm? How did you go about checking?

I am sure it is an obd2 pcm I have tried to use the tunercats software and it would not work and the mechanic looked at it and he also said it was an obd2

Explain how tuner cats didn't work? Also, what reasoning did the mechanic give for it being a 96+ pcm? part #s?

The more info you can give the better, I'm no expert but willing to dig for info.

Edit, what is the part # on the pcm its self

The tunercat would not ever recognize nor communicate with the pcm. The mechanic is the one that is going to be doing the tuning and has been trying to figure it out. Im not sure of what his reasoning is but he usually knows what he is talking about. I dont have any part numbers handy right now. The only thing that has me thinking it is possibly an obd1 is that it has yet to throw a check engine light. It now has cam, heads, throttle body, injectors, pretty much the whole top end has been replaced with performance parts. Not to mention all of the smog stuff was also deleted.

Argh. 95 is OBD1.5 its OBD1 with an OBD2 connector.

Hook up the laptop, plug in the OBD2 connector (which is why I bought the cable with a OBD1 and OBD2 plugs). Start TunerCats, go to ECM, select PCM-EE thats for 94 and 95 LT1s. Turn the car on, wait till like 10 seconds, go to Options and select Com Port Selection and find the port that is open, then hit Tools Read PCM.

Obviously find a new mechanic this guy doesn't know ****.

OBD2 was integrated slowly in 95. Late 95 cars some had it, by 96 it was mandatory that every car had OBD2.

Are you sure you were using tuner cats correctly?

Not trying to sound like an *** but I messed it up the first time I used it.

Did you follow his instructions about setting the correct port for tunercats to communicate with?

Also, go find the part # off the pcm, that will instantly tell you what pcm you have.

Was the car bought with the modifications? If so it I'm willing to bet its been tuned before, which would explain why there are no check engine lights. If it wasnt DO NOT DRIVE it with out a tune....

I know nothing about your car so its hard to offer solid advice, you don't have your mods up anywhere either.

Did you turn the ignition on and wait 10 seconds before trying to read?

If you didn't the PCM is still running checks and it won't let you read it till its idle.

The only thing is if you did everything I said correct, if someone programmed the PCM before they could have locked the PCM. Usually this is only done by big name Companies. Not mail order tuners.

EDIT:

Then you guys aren't following what I said then.

No idea if your currently driving it but DO NOT DRIVE it till you get it at least mail order tuned, you can cause massive damage to the engine....

I am running Windows 7.

You have to install the program a special way under Windows 7 and Vista. If you need me to I can go grab my CD and tell you how to do it.
