These are all good points. Why would Comp Cams recommend 1/2 turn past zero if this was a bad idea then?

Now you guys have got me all worried...

I wouldn't be. IMO it's not an issue until you are past 6500rpm.

Did you read the posts?

Near zero lash is about keeping a valvetrain in control that is nearing losing control.

The argument for nearly bottoming the plunger is so the valve sees maximum lift without the plunger soaking up some travel but comes with risks. Someone said that is about 1.25 turns. What all this means is Comp split the difference and recommends right in the middle which is safe by both accounts.

i measured mine.....i used to run a total of .035 lash on my crane HR lifters which had a reduced travel when i had my HR cam in my old 355........i measured mine with a indicator to get an accurate number......turned out the way to do it was tighten till i lost lash NOT till the pushrod had reisistance.....then went 3/4 turn on the nut.........a 3/8 -24 stud will travel .042 per revolution......doing the "spin the pushrod" method personally i think works great for normal builds and dad's farm truck......if you want to be accurate do the math........there is no arguing 0 lash.....that is a common measurement regardless of what you are using for valve train......as for the stud....the thread pitch is the thread pitch......do your math and set it correctly where you want......guessing and using half *** assembly and adjustment procedures is the reason LS1Tech has so many "I cant beleive my motor broke" threads lol

I agree there should be no debate about what "zero lash" means. It is precisely when there is no lash, BUT there are common methods of "finding" it that result in not finding it atall.

Exactly why I prefer to set it while engine is running 1/4 past no more clacking.

Altho measuring is probably the most ideal.
