Near zero lash is about keeping a valvetrain in control that is nearing losing control.
The argument for nearly bottoming the plunger is so the valve sees maximum lift without the plunger soaking up some travel but comes with risks. Someone said that is about 1.25 turns. What all this means is Comp split the difference and recommends right in the middle which is safe by both accounts.
