Default 97 LT1 questions.

I have a 97 LT1, completely stock besides a Flowmaster muffler. I was wonder what mods I should start with. I dont want to do cam/head work just yet. So it has to be something that wont leave my car down for awhile. Thanks for your help

First off welcome to the site.

Second, get rid of the Flowmaster.

Quick mods, Cold Air Intake ( Moroso is great ), 160 degree Thermostat, Pacesetter long tube headers, If you want maybe a bigger rear gear 3:73- 4:10

Is your car auto or stick? If its a stick with a stock 10 bolt rear, once you start doing serious modds cam, heads etc, your gonna want to get a bigger rear or you will shatter it fairly quick on a solid hook up.

Im in the progress of making money, but i dont want to get too high in price. The down time isnt really the problem, i just dont have much room to work on it.

i would do full exhaust with long tube headers. i had pacestters and i loved them for the price and get a cold air intake with a metal 90 instead of the cheap *** rubber stock one. gears would do alot too. but if you want hp start to collect money for some heads or get your stock heads worked on. its the best bang for buck imo. or instead of heads do a rear mount turbo. they cost about the same to do. and achive about 400 rwhp

Air in, air out. CAI and a mandrel bent exhaust, Headers would be nice but not nesessary at this stage. larger TB would help. A tune to help tie this together.

Biggest bang for your buck would be a set of 3.73 gears with your auto.

Good luck

A larger TB is not needed right now for what he wants, he is not even close to needing a larger TB. For what he is looking for CAI, Long tubes, Get rid of Flowmaster and get something else ( Magnaflow, SLP, Hooker, Dynomax, Borla, Corsa, etc.) Bigger gear, 160 degree t-stat, maybe even a underdrive pulley and electric water pump and he should be good.

Your looking at well over 2 thousand dollars for a turbo set up, I've seen rear mount turbo set ups going for 3K+ all day long. It would be cheaper to heads/cam I would think. Plus with a cam, your car is gonna sound nasty depending on how big of a cam you go.

no way 2000 grand if fab by your self with turbonectics turbos. max 1600 unless you want good waistegate and bov

you can get the turbo for $800 off ebay for a 72mm jb. brand new
a tial waistegate 325, know off 150 my self i woundnt cheap out on a waistegate
a tial 50mm bov 300, knock off 150. my self i heard of people running the knock off tial 50mm and they work awsome.
and piping another 125
then a oil pump and lines
headers? diffrent prices

the only reason i said turbo is turbo around time.

price for a cam $350
heads $1500 to $2500 aftermarket
stock work??? idk
injectors
tuned
cold air intake
headers?
intake worked?
throttle body?

they both have to be tuned.

but you cant do a head and cam without intake and exahust

How long is that ebay turbo going to last though, I have heard some bad things about ebay turbos. Like after 25-30k miles there done, but I don't do much research on turbos though.

I just would figure even at 1600, Budget heads and a good cam would be a better investment, then if he wants more power later go with a turbo or supercharger...

What the DIY difficulty of a rear mount turbo? My cars at 70k miles, how long would it last? And would i HAVE to buy anything to support the turbo, or would it run off a stock setup? Sorry for all the questions, im just really curious!
