Shift kit and rear end

Shift kit and rear end
I have a built 4l60e with a transgo hd2 shift kit in it. In a few weeks I'll be running a set of mt et streets. My 1-2 shift is pretty brutal and I was curious if anyone else with some minor mods have broken the 10bolt with a shift kit and if I should be worried about that haha. Mods in my sig and by then I'll have a 266hr-14 cam.

I know people with stocks cars have broken the rear, I was more curious if I should be concerned about it shifting hard while running et streets.

I put a transgo shift kit into a good running 4L60E. I had it adjusted to the middle setting on the accumulator. There were 3 settings iirc. It shifted pretty hard for about 2 months and then the tranny was junk. Wouldn't shift at all on WOT runs. It was perfectly fine for cruising but over 4500rpm it was useless. If you want a strong 4L60E it has to come out and be thoroughly gone through by a shop that has done them before.

The thing is a "built" tranny with a 2400rpm stall is a bit of a red flag to most of us as that is a 12" converter. All the reputable performance shops much prefer a quality 9.5" unit for a performance build.
There are far more hacks out there building the 4L60E than competent shops. There are hacks that do a good job of promoting themselves on the internet as good too.

LOL, have you seen the kit? It's a bunch of valve body modifications, a plate that you drill a hole or two (they provide the bit) some springs and some spacers. You can install the kit with the tranny in the car. The kit doesn't touch hardly anything else. Ask a reputable 4L60E rebuild shop what they think of the transgo kit, and they'll probably tell you they are junk. I can't see how a pro could make it last any longer by installing the provided parts differently. The steps are pretty straight forward.

Yeah it's not like the kit comes with instructions for setup RANGES for valvebody holes or shims or anything that a tranny pro could tweak as they see fit. Oh wait, no that is EXACTLY what happens.
My tranny guy spends some time on the phone and then opens the kit and makes notes about how to set it up for the particular application. Sometimes those notes are even outside the ranges Transgo currently specifies.

I would make sure that you installed a poly trans mount, I had a built 60e with a 3200 stall tq convertor and shift kit, as well as 4.10 rear gears in my 10 bolt and In a trip from washington to arizona (having some fun along the way) I went through 3 stock brand new trans mounts on street tires. bought a poly one and never had that problem again

Transmission clutches are sadly a maintance item when building a performance 4l60/700.
As long as the weak points are addressed with better hard parts, a 4l60 is a pretty decent transmission in a street driven car. Only the wild setups really need to think about a better trans. IMO.

Yep, I actually broke my stock transmission crossmember and bought the BMR relocation crossmember that mounts the front TA mount to the crossmsmber and off the Transmission. I went this rount since the year before I had bought an adjustable stcke mounting TA.
