Default quiet exhaust system

I have a magnaflow exhaust system on my car. When I went to a 3600 stall the car seems to be extremely loud when accelerating then once the car sets into a gear and the converter locks the sound is fine. I also do a lot of highway driving and at 70mph it can become annoying on long trips

I want to quiet the car down some. What do you guys suggest? can you guys give me some ideas? I can fab something up just kinda stumped on what to do.

add a cat to the system or add another muffler, the reason its louder is because the car is now higher in the rpm band when moving and driving from the stall. either deal with it or add something to the system

you didn't answer the question but that always seems to be a theme on this forum. It is obvious that it is because the shift in the rpm range when it starts to move. What I need is someone to Recommend a system that is better at quieting the car down not tell me i need to add a muffler or deal with it.

We can all recommend hundreds of exhaust systems, but he offered a better solution. Another answer could be a stock muffler. With or without a cutout.

X2

You won't get any quieter than a stock catback. I used to have flowmaster 40s, and it sounded great but i got too many complaints, and I always felt like a cop magnet. So I put a stock catback on, with an electric cutout, so now she screams when I want to, and is reasonably quiet when I need it. Best thing I ever did to my car.

I've never heard a worse sounding car than an lt1 with headers and a stock catback.

I'm not sure how else you tell someone to quiet down an exhaust....

Either removed the stall, or put another inline muffler...or put stock catback back on.

Or drive a quiet car when you need to be quiet.

It doesn't sound great with just the stock catback, but that's why I said to buy a cutout to. The purpose of a stock catback is to make it quiet when you need it. Not to sound good.

With that said I think my car sounds pretty good with the cutout closed. But I don't have a stock lt1 catback. I have the 98-02 catback which is supposed to have a 22% larger muffler. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's quieter than the stock lt1 catback for sure.

Just do a 6spd trans swap; that way you don't have to modify your exhaust at all....6th gear is surprisingly quiet @70mph even with 4.10's and the magnaflow catback

The Hooker catback is what I have. The best thing about it is that at highway speeds (65+) it has absolutely no exhaust drone. In fact at 70-75 or so, you almost can't hear it. I have dual cats on mine, but when I first hooked it up, I didn't have any cats because the old ones were rusted out and I had the muffler shop just weld in pipes in their place while I ordered cats. Even without cats, it was still very mellow sound at highway speeds.

Agree 100% I have hooker catback with no cats and pacesetter LT headers. At cruising speed on the highway it is dead quiet, no drone at all. Sometimes I wonder if its even there, then u downshift and punch it, it comes alive. Love it. I vote for hooker, they are pretty cheap, borla is also nice, not a fan of magnaflow on LT1 cars.

I am after not getting pulled over by the cops. personally if it wasnt for that i could care less. I have no intention of deleting the cats or adding long tubes as I cant pass inspection like that.

To answer your question; I would add a resonator or a bullet muffler to the system if you are not looking to replace the catback.
