LT1 383 Clayton Racing Ripoff

This reminds me of my own experience with a reputable builder with ties to the old nascar grand national days, I did my research on him and only found a hand full of negative results due to out of country or custom one-off builds, then advertised on ebay and got swamped with orders. It took 9 months for my turnkey 383sbc-@490hp/465tq to be built, was delivered without the carb, and I got the same run around as the OP. The shop personel mis-handled the operations of the business, robbing peter to pay paul. I tried to call the Carb mfg about it and they said sorry wish they could help but the builder was on COD from their own experiences. I did recieved a carb for my motor. Finally enough people contacting the ST. Atty where the builder was based got a inquiry started, the builder filed bankruptcy and closed shop, and was procesecuted for mail fraud, internet fraud and such..
It all sounds like this builder is in a downward out of control spiral, just hope all turns out for the best for you guys..

yes it is, there are rumors lloyd may be working at another shop, Prestige Motors, their website looks very similar..
I was lucky enough to get my motor just before they closed the doors, so far its been a beast, I've trashed 2 700r4s (1 being a race stage 2) with it, I have since done a T56 swap in my 84 Z28, just completed the conversion about a month and 1/2 ago, still not street legal

That is true. I don't know the guy, but I used to work at a engine parts supplier that sold parts to T&L. I also bought some F body parts from Prestige a while back. That's how I've heard about the whole deal. The guy is just an employee at Prestige. Supposedly most of his paycheck goes back to paying debts. From what I hear he was a good guy who was not good at running a business and a lot of people took advantage of him. He let motors go out the door on credit and didn't get paid, etc. Just the rumors I heard.
Prestige makes a bad *** aluminum F body k member by the way. It's practically weightless.

KTRE had something happen similar several years ago. There was a massive group purchase on the main f-body boards and they ended up closing shop with many outstanding orders. Never found out what happened with that deal...

Pretty sure they built the first 12-bolt differentials available for the 4th gen f-body way back when. I am not 100% positive since it was a hundred years ago, I bought my Strange when they first became available in 2000 and I'm pretty sure KTRE was out before that. I think it was KTRE, Strange and then Moser?

I'd visit him personally with a witness and all my paperwork and any other evidence to show proof of payment-in-full, call the local police to witness before hand with the intent to collect, then make your surprise visit. Make your demand at that time, take your block, $$$$ if he has any (balance owed??) and/or whatever he has worth and leave.....find another local shop! Least you get back some, then nothing at ALL.

I have placed ad on Craigslist..it has been officially 1 year now. I have been sending Corey Madoff messages and no response. All I am doing is trying to spread the word on a thief. Todd Maschmeier has my motor now and has started it and of coarse he needs the belt drive. Todd is a two time champ at drag week and his shop is down the road from Larson so I guess these guys alone can get the word out on the Clayton Racing bunch! Anyway I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2013!!!

Its a shame this has become the norm in business nowadays, especially in the automotive specialty market.
Over promise and under deliver, we are being conditioned to accept it.
Reminds me of some brain damage I had with UMI............

I worked in the customer service side for years, 12 as a flat rate dealership tech. Then as a dealership service advisor for 8 years.
The key is TRUTHFULL communication.

Glad you got your money back. I think he owes you a public apology but his reputation is already tarnished so I don't see that happening. He can't blame anyone but himself.
Keep us posted on your progress.

I am extremely happy this has been resolved..I will keep you posted on this build as it comes together. I hope Corey takes his customers a little more seriously from here on out and make things right with those that he owes..it's sad that one has to take these type's of measures to get your money back. It almost didn't happen, if I wouldn't have had a text from Corey the bank wasn't going to cover because of how much time had passed. They needed something in writing from him stating he had it to open a new case...I am very ,very lucky and I hope others learn from this mess, not only about a seller but the time frame your bank allots for your protection...
