Default tick after header install and custom y.

i have a tick coming from what sounds like the driver side valvetrain. could it be an exhaust leak or do I need to think about replacing the stock valve train it is 18 years old? I just changed the oil and put in engine tune up it didn't solve the problem.

Did you put regular header bolts on locking ones? If you put regular ones of then you have to routinely tighten them for the first while and eventually they will seat and be fine. My guess is the bolts are leaky and if the tick doesnt go away after re tightening them you either have a bad gasket or the flange isnt straight.

Try re-tightening them. I would almost rule out a valve train issue. You just did exhaust work so that is more than likely what the problem is. Highly unlikely you would spring a valve train issue directly after a header install.

Make sure a spark plug hasnt backed out slightly and all wires are fully clipped on the plugs... both will cause a loud tick

Most installs are usually a couple times after a heat cycle and your good but i checked mine everytime i went out for a drive the first month and they slowly got better and now there fine. If its still leaking it might be a bad gasket or the flange surface just isnt flat. If its still leaking then you might want to look into a new gasket. The Felpro 1406s are what most use i think i used Mr Gasket Ultra Seal 5903 off the top of my head as the copper ones i bought originally were **** for sealing.

Others will disagree but Felpros suck IMO....they could not fix my leaky passenger side pacesetter mid-tubes... but Earl's Pressure master graphite foil gaskets fixed it no problem. They cost a bit more, but once you see them up close there is no comparison and they seal MUCH better.

The point is tightening them up before burning them up. If you tightened them and still have the leak, the gasket may need replaced.
