Default 1997 Transam, is it worth it?

I am not sure if I'm in the right section for this, but here we go.

My buddy is in the market for a transam. We found a 97 at a dealer up the road. I think it is overpriced, however he doesn't have the cash to get pay for one straight up. So he plans on getting financed.

Here is a link to the car, just want to get some opinions on what everyone thinks. The dealer isn't coming down on the price more than 1k dollars.

I wouldn't pay that much. It's nice though and has low miles. Around here nice LT1 TA's usually go for 1/2 that or less.

you can get a freaking c5 for that much, and i like how it says "never been in the wet weather" yet it clearly rained recently where the car is sitting.

Exactly, thats a very nice clean LT1, but not worth 14,000. $8,000 tops is what i would pay

Never seen an automatic six speed before! Tell him he is on crack. I wouldn't pay more than half of that.

Beautiful car but almost 15k is crazy. A C5 would be a better choice for that type cash or a 2000 to 2002 T/A with an LS1.

NADA high retail is 7775 and KBB is usually less than NADA. I don't know how they would find anyone to finance that much $ on a car that books close to 1/2 what they're asking. I love my car but if he wants it for $12,000 let me know and I'll drive it up there

Like other said. Go for a C5 vette for that price. Or a low mileage LS1 fbody.

Like everyone elses posted way overpriced... if it was a Firehawk i could see it fetching 15k no problem but a regular 6spd trans am its nothing special and can be found for half the price.

Car looks very nice but $15k for a 97 TA??? Maybe 1/2 that price would be more like it. That dealer is insane if he thinks he's going to get that much. As mentioned, you can get a C5 for that kind of money.

Theres a 1997 here (cincinnati) in way worse condition, 86k miles, automatic...for 8,995. I thought that was overpriced! I bet dude only got 7500 MAX trade in for that car, more like 5000.

I would just go private seller, just look around till you find a decent one that was owned by a decent guy.
