I didn't realize that about the LT's but 4.10's made my 6th a lot more usable.

Not sure what your case is, but for me the pro's far out weighed the con's.

I don't drive my car enough to have any kind of idea about gas mileage, either before or after.

Only real down side to a 4.10(in a stock rear) over a 3.43 is the 4.10s are weak

LS F-body trans has exact same ratio's as a 94-97 F-body trans. Only differance is front plate and input shaft

I went from 3.73's to 4.10's and it was one of the best mods I did. It completely changed the car and made it 10x more fun to drive. Cruising RPM is a bit higher on the highway though.

I have an A4 with 3.73 rear. Running 285/35/19 tire 26.85 tall...2100 rpm at 60. The rpm is off of my MSD tach, not the POS stock tach. On a side note how big a tire is the guy running 34.5" tires?

Looks like you need to service your engine soon....better stop by the dealership asap

Hey guys thanks for all the input. The car is a 1995 z28, the reason im concerned about the mpg is its my daily driver. But after what you have said im thinking the 4.10s are worth it despite the milage hit?

Ive Never heard a bad thing from switching the 3.42 gears to 4.10's... Just dont drive like a bat out of hell all the time and you shouldnt noticed to much of a loss. Its been reported that people gain mileage with city driving! Ill be putting my 8.8 with 4.10's in my 94' Z soon. Along with a competition clutch stage 4 and a ram lightweight aluminum flywheel

Default 1994 Z28 AUTOMATIC transmission 4.10s

My 1994 LT1 has an Automatic with 4.10 rear gears (previous owner installed) and I'm at 2500 at 60mph and about 2700-2900at 70mph highway. I only have 4th gear (overdrive) instead of 6th gear so it's a bit unrealistic.. I would LOVE to trade for some lower gears like 3.42s or even 3.73s though. My 4.10s have some real kick in them tho and so they're definitely worth it for backroads and city! Gas mileage with my automatic is in the low 20s I think highway and it stays about the same for city. I don't really care about mpgs, but I just hope I won't do damage to my engine running it close to 3000rpm for hours at a time every once in a while!

Anyone else have experience with 4.10s on an automatic tranny?

I've been driving my 1994 since June about 40 highway miles a day and havent had any real problem with the high rpm cruising, it concerned me a bit at first but after a while you get used to it.

4.10s are fine with the automatic. If it really worries you what you might hurt you could upgrade the valvesprings but those would be a high rpm performance improvement not a 2500rpm cruise reliability improvement.

I would rather have an engine at 2500rpm cruise than a 1300rpm cruise like the LT1 wagons with 2.56s saw. Lugging an engine is terrible for them little bit of rpm is fine.

4L60E with 4.10s is still a better cruise rpm than an old musclecar with a TH350 or TH400 with 3.08s, the gearing is very close but those older trannies didn't have lockup TC. Well it was on a few TH350s but you get the idea.

Little update incase anyone sees this, I just put on some 275/40/18 vette wheels and it did drop rpms by a good 300 compared to stock wheels which makes me sleep better at night.
