Default Highway RPMS? 4.10s?

What rpms would I be spinning at 60mph with 4.10s behind a 6spd? Do 4.10s affect mpg very much vs. the 3.42s?

If you turn 1750 with 3.42s, then 1750*4.10/3.42=2100rpm. It will hurt your gas mileage a little because you are turning more rpms, but probably not much since you won't have to downshift on hills as much.

I was about 1900rpm in 6th with 285/35/19s my fuel mileage went from 29 w/3.42s to 26 with 4.10s.......6th gear was much more fun not to mention light to light

I have 3.73's with a 6 spd and wish I had the 4.10's. I don't think 4.10 is too much gear with the insane overdrive of the 6 spd.

With 4.33s Im at 2200 at 60mph now in my M6, 2500 at 80. Still not that bad, but with a 26" tire I top out 4th gear at 6100rpm at 106mph, which is right before the stripe on the 1/4 mile.

If you take a big hit in mileage with 4.10s and an M6 I would look at the tune or your driving.

RPM when tuned right does not hurt mileage much because the biggest load on an engine at cruise is aerodynamic drag on the body and rolling resistance of tires and bearings, brakes and gears don't affect that load. Yes the engine has to work a little harder to make the engine turn more but in the end the total amount of work it has to do which is mostly moving the car hasn't changed.

The A4 owners worry about this too much as well we do have overdrive and lockup so with 4.10s we are still turning lower rpm than say an oldschool musclecar with a three speed auto and no lockup with 3.08s, the gearing difference between 3.08 in 1:1 and 4.10s in overdrive is very similar but lockup makes an additional improvement.

I'm just worried with 4.10s the motor would rev pretty high at highway speeds. i have 26" tires so i already rev a bit higher than stock

Not true....every 94-02 have a .50 6th overdrive....I should know I have 6spd versions of both. Only the 1993 year model did have a shorter (.65) 6th gear....every other 4th gen 6spd has the .50 OD, just like the Corvette and Viper.

I have a 94 and mine turns more RPMs at 80 than my friends 02 does. My car was built in september 93, so maybe I have the 93 trans?

Stranger things have happened......would not surprise me the least. Or previous owner could have swapped it out from a junkyard ect.

Interesting side note, the 94-up trans are rated at 450 TQ; while the 93 trans only 400 TQ.

A taller tire would turn less rpm for a given speed with the same gear

Good point on the 93 T56.
Also brings up that the OP should have a sig so we know what the car is.
