Didn't just let it sit and idle, did you? Hope not, you usually burnish the rings doing that. When that happens, they never seal up like they should, and never make the power they should. More power in ring seal (not talking about burning oil or not) than in choosing a "custom cam" over one off the shelf. Don't let it idle while you marvel at how cool your new cam sounds. Go drive it. Hard, on the expressway. Run it up past 5000 WOT, let it coast back down, repeat about ten times.

I'm sure you already know this, but perhaps some don't- coolant heats up/cools down much faster than oil. If your temp gauge is working then your oil really isn't warm enough to be taking the engine to high RPM. Not a sermon. Just a thought.
