Default high rpm power loss/ steering column questions

Ok first of all I have an issue with the car bogging down at about 5500+ rpm. Opti/plugs/wires all replaced when the engine was rebuilt ~13000 miles ago. I'm thinking its a fuel issue because this is the only area where i have the problem and my fuel pump was whistling/whining after the latest run when this happened. I have not had a chance to actually check anything yet but tomorrow i will hopefully get a chance to check the fuel pressure.

Second, my steering column broke this week. How hard is this thing to work on? I've heard it a royal pain and is it something that i should attempt to fix having never messed with one before?

Third, I have a rattle under the car. When my stall locks or when i shift it rattles.. would this be a tranny mount?

with as much as ive done to this car to keep it running within the last month i kinda wanna take a BFH to it

Fuel pressure check, first.

There are a ton of parts to the steering column so when you say "steering column broke" specifically what is the problem?

Rattling under the car could literally be anything. You can start with the trans mount, but could be headers, exhaust, dust shield, etc.

on the steering column, I think its the tilt steer mechanism or somethin in that area. It wont lock into a possition very well (if at all) and it angles tward the center of the car slightly which makes the car very hard to start cause it messes with the key mechanism inside the column.

the vibration im pretty sure is not the exhaust or headers, ...what you mean by dust shield?

gonna check fuel pressure after the football game

I've got 37psi steady at idle, and with key on engine off. I'm scared to take the car out cause i ran it to town and back saturday during halftime and i got on it and it banged 3 times in quick succession right around 5500 again and i quickly let off. ran fine at highway speed ~2500rpm

17k miles roughly, the car shifts at 6100rpm. This started happening all of a sudden...

I had the valve covers off about 1000 miles ago to look things over and everything *looked* fine
