LT1 Mechanic in Nashville or Help? 95 T/A No Start. Spark and fuel ok. Ideas?
I have a 1995 Trans-am 6 speed with 100k miles. It backfired while driving and when I tried to start it, I had no luck. Backfires through intake with white smoke. This happens when i let off the key. It will crank all day. New opti, plugs, wires. I have injector pulse, 43psi fuel pressure, spark. I think cam timing is good, it's at 9OC TDC. No codes showing. the car hasnt been used much. Less than 4k since 08.
If anyone has any idea or advice or knows a good LT1 mechanic please let me know. I need my car back and would really appreciate it.
Thankyou

I'm betting you have a vacuum leak around the intake somewhere. Also you may have old chunky fuel in your fuel lines. If it sits too long, fuel with clog fuel lines and have a texture something like peanut butter. Maybe bad plugs?

I actually work at Carma. We don't work on LT1s.
All the ignition components were put on after the issue. They are all installed properly and in the right firing order. I drained all the gas out and it's clean. Jumped the fuel pump.
Its at 9 o'clock TDC but i havnt taken the timing cover off.
After it backfired out the exhaust very loud it was still running till I got to work. When I tried to leave no start.

If you installed a new opti and the car never ran on the new opti then you may have installed it wrong. I didn't think it was possible but I watched a friend of mine do it one day. If you rip your opti off to test this theory then make sure you test fire before bolting the waterpump back on.

I am in Clarksville and can probably be of help .. Symptoms point to opti.. And unless the opti has actually been tested don't rule it out just because it is new because I had a customer go through 3 before he got one that wasn't bad.. Also check the connection at the opti and up to the harness... Test ignition module as well

Sounds like the opti isnt seated correctly. I installed mine last month and it did the same thing. It backfired and wouldnt start up. Took it off and popped it on in the correct spot a boom. Good as new.
You could also have crossed a wire, as simple of a procedure that is it can easily be mixed up.
