LT1 Stroker kit questions
Greetings..
I have tried searching but had no luck with some detail of stroker kits for the LT1 blocks , I have a standard LT1 block and intend to get it machined and install a 383 kit .
Can anyone tell me the differance between a stroker kit for a Gen 1 enigne and a LT1 , if i am right the crank, pistons bearings , rods are the same ?
I am going to convert to carb and distributor so will install an after market balancer, can i just use a Gen 1 balancer if i am using a Gen 1 stroker kit as one of the ebay stroker kit sellers is trying to tell me that the front hub is different and the balancer also but i am thinking if the crank is the same how can this be ??
Thanks in advance
Bob

The LT1 uses a 1 piece rear main seal. Earlier SBCs do not. They use an externally balanced flywheel or flex plate. Also the LT1 dampener has a longer snout, or hub. Rods & pistons & rings are the same. If the rods & pistons are light enough you can balance it with a neutral balanced flex plate.

Have you talked to any machine shops? They may rather suggest you have them find the parts for you instead of you bringing the parts to them. If something were to go wrong with your engine it's far easier for them to blame the parts you gave them instead of ones they ordered.

Hi..
Thanks for the information , so if i change the crank to SBC 1 piece seal and buy a balanced set including harmonic balancer and flex plate it should work fine ?
Its a bit of a DIY project and i am just doing things for fun really and just want to make sure things will fit , it will be heading into a 1950 chevy pickup for showing purposes and will only be a weekend toy . Picked up a LT1 block for £99 which i am playing around with .
I could get a machine shop to do everything but i am based int he UK so chevy stuff is not the norm so V exspensive for someone else to do .
thanks

I'd call Callies and ask them about their Compstar stuff. You can use a 2-piece rear main, but you have to buy an adapter to make it work with the LT1 block. Not sure who sells them...

Yes, any one piece rear main SBC crank works in an LT1. Very common. I like them as they are less prone to leak. That's the reason GM went to that deal.

Perfect , this is what I was thinking , As long as i replace crank and pistons and flex plate + balancer as one pre balanced assembly i should be good to go.
Thanks

Im just going to put this in here now.
Read around on the forums for a little, find someone who has a setup you like, and copy it part for part. Its easy to tell you are new to LT1s, and research is going to be your best friend. Some NEWBIE notes:
Avoid Eagle CAST cranks
LT1s can run 12-13:1 compression on pump gas just fine
Building a "stroker" will not give as much power as a good head/cam package, CI does not equal power unless you add big heads and cam to support it.
