Default Bad Otispark?

Ok just bought a 95 formula couple weeks ago. Its been running great until today! Stopped at sheetz and put 8bucks in the tank was getting down around a quarter. by the time I made it home (about 5min) I was getting a really bad pop and misfire! Put some dry gas in. Gets alittle cold here in pa. didn't seem to do much so I but i was looking around and pulled the wire off the bottom left side of the opti and inside it looks like a sprk plug wire thats cut off. Not brass colored like the rest of them. its only the one on the bottom all the rest i can see anyways. could this be an indication of the opti being shot? How can I test it. or is it prob just the gas. Also I already changed fuel filter.

I noticed i got some antifreeze down on the optispark where the wires for the plugs go is it gonna be screwed or will after drying out will i be ok

Almost forgot last night I had problems with the heat not being really warm so i was bleeding out the rad. I had the one bleeder open on top of the thermostat housing and the one open in the heater core line. and took the ccap off the radiator a few times so maybe I got something wet? could this be y i am having this prob all of a sudden. Just seemed a little wierd tho right after I put gas in it it started tho. I talked to the kid I got it from and he said it done this once B4 and he put some isopropyl in it and it stopped shortly after and he always put octane boost in it

okay i pulled the number 1 plug off while the car was on and it didn't rreally seem to change anything with the idle. By number 1 i think is the one on the driverside of the distributor at the bottom. It kinda feels as if the wire has spark going thru it but it doesn't really seem to make a difference when its off. I do have a check engine light but no way to check it since its the damn ODB1!!! where can i get a plug for my laptop for it for cheap. Figure if i gotta buy that might as well get one I can tune with

I think you are just looking at what that end of the plug should look like. You said you got the opti a little wet, hopefully if you let it dry out you will be ok. Check all of your plug connections, run your fingers across all of your wires to check for burns and make sure they are clear of the exhaust. Its just basic troubleshooting from here, check out the stickies, do a search, and post back when you find something more detailed.

tunercat.com has cables and they are 85$ if u pulled out number one plug and she still runs the same i think u figured out ur problem. have a friend crank it over or have the car running and look at the end of the plug to see if u are getting spark.

imean it bogs down slightly but just hardly. It doesnt seem like it really losing a cyl. I am giving it a little bit to dry out. I will go take a pic of the plug to show what I am talking about cuz it really seems like that bottom plug is fouled or messed up cuz the rest are nice and brass but the bottom one is all looks like corroded. let me get a pic its easier than explaining it

ok sounds like it might be time for new cap and rotor or maybe u can get away with cleaning it. either way it looks like u are gonna have to take that opti out and have a look at it.

u can reuse the water pump. no need to change it if its still working. i kno alot of people doing electric water pumps but thats up to u. an it looks like u have alot of oil in the opti.u should try to get in there with a rag or something to clean that out and then plug it back in then let me kno what u got. but make sure its really clean before u plug it back in

okay so i got everything torn down, cleaned up, and put back together. It included a new cap and rotor from summit racing. NGK spark plugs, Taylor 8.5 street thunder Wires. MSD Ignition Coil. And while I had everything torn down I replaced the timing cover gaskets. The car is running like a scalded Demon now!! Took a while to get everything done since I kept getting wrong parts from sumit and waiting on shipping for the right thing to get here. Then my wire kit was missing a wire.

Anyone who is going to take the pulley off the crank. To get it back on just go to the hardware store and pick up a 3 1/2 inch 7/16x20 (fine)thread bolt. Start your hub on a bit make sure its going on straight, Then put the longer bolt with your washer for the hub in and make sure it catches a few threads. and crank it in as far as it will go. Then take it out and put in your regular bolt w/washer back on and crank it the rest of the way on. Just make sure that the bolts are catching a bit of thread so you don't strip out your crank!!!! Good Luck!!

installing the hub with a bolt is a no-no. Good way to strip the crank threads out. The way to do it is a threaded rod, washers, and nut. That eliminates the turning friction at the crank threads.

^this to install the hub, go to an ace hardware and get a threaded rod and a lot of washers and 2 bolts, they should be able to even cut the rod for you there.

I am saying you need to make sure you get the bolt a good 4 or 5 turns in (enough so it doesn't strip the threads from your crank) the problem with all thread is it isn't all that strong. So you may end up breaking the allthread off into the end of the crank. So Either way make sure you are extremely careful when doing this part of putting your engine back together!!! Good point tho guys!

I pushed mine on as far as i could to get it started and just got a longer bolt with the washer that is from the crank to push it on. got a couple of good turns on it and put my impact gun on it.. I would not recommend this tho b/c it is extremely easy to damage your car. I know my tools and how they work so i did this way.. Literally took 30sec. no turning of the engine since I was using the impact gun. and stopped when it was almost back in put my torque wrench on and torqued it down....
