Default obdII cam selection

Just wondering if a hot cam will work in an stock 96 lt1 without causing error codes?

Should be fine, but the pcm will detect a lot more misfires from the lopey nature of the cam. You are planning on uprading the springs while you are at it right? You don't want to run that cam on stock springs.

You could get the kit, but I'm not a big fan of the springs that come with the kit. They work with the cam, but not the best choice out there.

Think about upgrading to a better timing set while you are at it too, the LT4 extreme duty set is a bolt-in and is a bit stouter than the stock setup.

If you have only the mods in your signature, I'd get headers long before thinking about a cam. That accomplished, go ahead with the cam. At which time, I'd reccommend an LT4 knock module (like $20), that should take care of your mis-fire problem if you go with a hot cam. Might want some O2 simulators for the rear sensors, too, just to keep the computer happy.

I have a 96 that I threw a hot cam kit on. It ran like crap before the computer tuning. I think it fattened the mixture and pulled some timing because of false knock detection. If I remember correctly it did throw a couple of codes. My suggestion would be to plan some computer money in you mods.

might as well get springs with the 1.6rrs, also.

And elysian is right, definitely do headers before a cam. you'll see almost no power from the cam, it doesn't help to exhale more air if you're still exhaling through a straw.
