Default LT1 4.060 head gasket thickness

I am in the process of doing head gaskets on my 95 lt1. I have my heads in the shop right now getting cleaned and magnafluxed and such. The block is bored .060 over with speed pro hypereutectic pistons but other than that it is stock. I'm looking at getting SCE Proc Copper head gaskets and the engine will see bolt ons, cam, and a possibly a 100 shot of nitrous in the future. What thickness gasket should I go with?

Why are you wanting to use copper gaskets?

If the block hasnt been decked. Then run the victor reinz 5898. Its .026 thick and is 4.10. It will bump your compression up.

so are you actively trying to cause aggravation with no possible up side by wanting to run the copper gasket?

Well what gasket would you recommend? I was told copper gasket was the way to go. I'm totally open to other options though

copper is for big power and often weeps, you could double the power you are looking to make and not need copper. I would question any advise from someone who suggested copper for boltons and a baby shot.

Far as what gasket to run, how about anything but copper, stock, felpro Mr. gasket/Victor Rienz, parts store brand.

Copper has it's place but what you are talking about is not it.

Most of us run either the Victor Rienz/Mr Gasket .026 thick gasket or the stock b-body .029 gasket on undecked or decked but still pistons down blocks. Felpro is popular too but is .039 so I would only use it with a zero decked block or even pistons out of the hole a little. Stock is .049 really not much use for it on a performance engine since we ant to raise compression.
Cometic makes a .027 that would be good for compression too.

A little 100shot nothing, bone stock engines handle more without any trouble do not even think about the 100 shot when picking cam or gaskets, treat it as if it will be NA. I would also suggest you consider a 150 shot if going through the trouble. Guys have successfully run that and more on cammed motors.

This is pretty much it.
I see thick copper gaskets used on alcohol blower motors cause they can handle the power, but they have to be o-ringed.

Yea i've seen copper head gaskets weep little bubbles right in front of me - nothing major but they do weep. The victor reinz 5898 is for iron heads - big difference. U want something with more graphite so it can allow the aluminum head to slide around with different expansion rates.
What's wrong with the GM gaskets? GM still has a LT1 head gasket listed in thier Performance Parts catalog.

as said the gaskets listed for iron heads be they the Mr Gasket or the stock GM b-body gasket are fine.
Far as what is wrong with the stock f-body gasket, it is .049 thick, a fair amount of compression to be gained in using a gasket of a more reasonable thickness.

Okay, i did a bunch of search'n Travis and i read a lot of good posts for the victor reinz 5898. It does have an graphite side to it so it would be good match for alum heads - maybe the graphite side needs to be on the alum head side though. Still looking for victor reinz's install instructions though. Still searching the victor reinz catalog.
And i would like to someone post with 10 yrs and 100k mi on thier victor reinz 5898 gaskets to convince me more. Really too good to be true but could be real improvement if it truley works well eniugh.

I learn something important here and thx for posting,
cardo

The Victor is the same exact gasket as the Mr. Gasket, believe Victor is the actual manufacturer and Mr. Gasket is the repackaged version, and Victor is an OEM supplier.
