Ok so I have a pretty much stock lt1 z28 a4 with stock 3.23 . My challenger is a buddy with a 1981 turbo Trans am . Carbureted 301 v8 with a small turbo . And a lunati cam and 3.08 gears . Bone stock tey do about 17 flat in the quarter all he really has is the cam took off the a/c and a shift kit in his turbo 350 tranny . My car just has a slp loudmouth cat back and a c.a.i throttle body bypass a.i.r delete and a 160 thermostat and fan switch other wise stock . I would like to hear what some people have to say about this . Kid claims 0-60 under 6 seconds ..... W.o a working speedo?... Ok some thoughts guys

It has a shift kit exhaust carb heads and its built brand new. It has a cam that's double the factory cam it's about 300 lbs lighter now. It has no more rev limiter of 4500 it revs to 6000 now it's running 2 more pounds of boost and it has a bigger charging system that allows more current though ignition system. ..... This wa his explanation as to why he will destroy me now . He is also go against a bolt on ls1 6 speed z28

OP -
There is only so much that can be done to a 301.
My veins run Pontiac Engine Block Blue and even I don't like to admit those ever existed!
They only have 3 main journals on the crankshaft (Front - Middle - Rear), and there are zero Hi Po parts for them.
Every two years or so, someone writes to HPP (High Performance Pontiac) magazine to ask what can be done to make a 301 / 301 Turbo TA faster, and the answer is always the same - pull it and drop in a 400 / 455!
You have no worries!

An LT1 has about 80-100 more HP than those turds in stock form. He didn't gain that gap with those mods I guarantee it. You will put city blocks on that car.
My uncle has a bone stock 81 Turbo T/A and I could barely get it to turn the tires over..... They're cool for what they are but they can't get out of their own way and run a solid 17 sec. 1/4 mile with the wind behind em' lol.

You gotta remember, those cars came out at the height of the smog and choked out **** years. Not many cars made over 200 HP at the time. Funny thing is, they have a **** load of torque (About 330 ft/lbs) but it doesn't really matter cuz the power output is so low.

Damn.... A full size truck took it down lol. Doesn't a stock lt1 have like 325 ft/lbs?.. It doesn't have that torque till about mid range cause of the turbo ,I plan on getting some ws6 ls1 rims soon and put some 315 street tires on them I wanna hook and take off . Ik he has the stock heads ported and polished with The cam and the boost raised like two pounds.... Is thing really this dog **** slow ...

Yeah I just really highly doubt that thing will break the 15's. Even if it was in the 14's you should be pulling hard on him. Hell you could boil the tires off and still catch him lol. I hate to put down the poor 301T soo much but they were a new design and Pontiac didn't really have time to refine them and make them worth a crap because GM shut down their motor production and made them use the corperate Chevy engines.

I am the challenger. My car is an 81 ws6 turbo trans am. The engine is a 301 turbo. Forged rods and pistons. 11 lbs of boost. 850 cfm carb jetted lunati voodoo cam 469 lift 283 duration. Ported and polished intake and heads. Turbo 350 with 1500 stall and a transgo manual valve body shift kit. Timing is set to 28 degrees advance. Hits 60 in first gear. 3.08 LSD rear. The exhaust system is the turbo down pipe to a glass pack side pipe. Removed a/c and smog systems. No cat. The car has shed about 300 lbs from stock. Runs on cam2. Ecu is removed and all the harnesses.
