Another One Bits The Dust!!! With Pics Well, the long drawn out pain of knowing I had ticking time bomb of a short block under my LE2 heads has finally gone off. I had just finished changing out a bad summit opti for a brand new GM unit and car was running good. Got on it and around 4K in second gear....BOOOOM!!! I knew almost instantly that the little crank of horrors had snapped. I'd like to thank the ******** who built this POS with a cast crank after I told him not too and as usual the Slant eyed Eagle workers who as usual built some great quality stuff for us Americans yet again. I went way conservative on the cam in this engine because of what the family friend engine builder put in it and it still broke proving that eagle should not even be selling this POS for anything other then decoration. I don't have the cash to fix it so the car sits again.

Either way it's unfortunate. It's so well documented that those cranks are POS's I probably would have bit the bullet and rebuilt it a long time ago. Hopefully it didn't take anything else out with it.

I agree that it sucks, but Eagle even says they're only good to 500 HP. Since that's crank, I'm still willing to bet your car was making more than that. Good news is, you can probably get away with bearings and a forged unit and be fine. Lot less than a full rebuild. GL

Cast is fine for a stock rebuild. Anyone planning to put over 400 to the tires should be going forged unless you're reusing the factory crank. And I personally am still not convinced the factory price isn't forged.
OP, you should be able to buy one piston from your manufacturer. Assemble it on your new forged crank and have the crank balanced and slap some new bearings and rings for measure and you will have a perfectly fine 383.
But that's just my opinion. And it depends on how much other stuff was hurt inside.

Yea never again will I use cast since most of that crap is cast in China and is a low income winner so quality is junk. I think there may be one manufacture left in the USA that casts here with a crank that will fit this thing?.?.?
That's why I'd rather spend the extra $400-$500 for the forged crank from the beginning and save myself all the headaches and expense later. Cause it's gonna cost way more than $400-$500 to fix everything later, sorry for your loss man, OUCH!
It's fine. How is changing out worn springs on a hyd. roller as often as a solid roller working out for you? Don't forget the occasional broken spring experience... Kind of takes you back to the good ol' LE days now don't it.
