Not sure on the Summit's, but I know you can get Pacesetters from amazon with a matching Y pipe for less than 400 shipped. I don't have any complaints from mine.

Painted, I've heard their coating sucks and i don't plan on my car seeing bad weather, only rain at times. I may pull them back off after this summer and have them coated though, header pain smells nasty burning off....

Is sand blasting the paint off a good idea? I have access to a blaster big enough.
I also don't drive my car in bad weather, not even rain.

The summit headers are rebranded pacesetters. The paint they use on them is mostly to keep them from rusting while sitting on the self or in transport, it will burn off pretty quick once installed. For what its worth I don't regret the ceramic coating on my pacesetters one bit, I've had em installed for about 3 years and theres only a little bit of rust on the collectors.

You could sand blast it off and high temp coat them, but it will scratch off and such just like anything else. I coated my Y pipe with 2k temp pain and it's holding up fine so far, only 1200 miles on it. But like I said it scratches easy and I'm sure will turn once the car sits this winter. I do plan on pulling my Y and headers to have them coated though.

A warmer weather state I would say un painted is fine, but we get snow, salt and all sorts of bs here in MI so I got what I could afford at the time and will fix it this winter. All be it I have read the armor coat from pacesetter was horrid anyhow. /end rant

Mild steel headers are going to rust eventually no matter what you do. There are some very affordable stainless options, which is what I would recommend if you don't want to shell out the money for Kooks or something equivalent, particularly if you plan to keep the car.

If you want to keep the air/egr you get emissions friendly headers, otherwise order race style ones. buy a block off kit for the back of the intake and yank all that **** out and pitch it.
Plan on buying o2 extensions too, for an extra 40 bucks ish with shipping it saves a big headache of making your own and them not working.

It will throw a code for the air/egr being gone, get a mail order tune and have it deleted. It won't hurt how the car runs or anything though.

Something the old "dirt trackers" used to do, before all of the trick coatings became readily available, was sandblast the headers, then put them on the car, rub them down with a good coating of ATF, then start the car and let the ATF burn off. It will (usually) burn off and leave the headers a medium gray in color, and keep them from rusting.

Got mine on ebay, had to enlarge the holes on the big plate just a little to make it fit. Hell you can make your own if you wanted.

I don't drive my camaro is rain or snow so I'd imagine the mild steel headers will hold up just fine until I buy a vette lol they will eventually rust but given the price you can buy like 3 sets of pacesetters for a set for kooks w/ y pipe.

i've had my pacesetters on for only about a year and there not as shiny or pretty as they use to be. some surface rust seems to be all around the whole header itself but i can't complain... the price on them compared to headers with nicer ceramic coating really is not worth it to me....
