1997 383 Camaro Z28, Supercharged - $5200 (Hartford)

Hey guys,

I just bought this, and immediately regret it. The seller either did not realize some of the issues with the car, or was not forward about it, and I want out. I wasn't looking for another project, and this is a bit of a project. The body is gorgeous, it only has 56k original miles, and it has a built motor by JM Performance in Ronkonkowa, NY. The build only has 2k miles and was completed in 2011. I have the build receipts, and sheet, as well as the original window sticker, two keys, and other paperwork.

Here is the setup:
-383 LT1
-V1 S/C @5psi
-Dart Pro 1 heads
-Comp Cam 220I 230E 510 510 114LSA
-Longtubes, catless, w/Borla exhaust
-Scat H-beam Rods w/S2000 bolts
-ICON forged pistons (8.2.1) 040
-Molly rings (hellfire top?) 040
-Bored 030
-30lb injectors w/Vortech FMU
-Ed Wright Fastchips Tune
-Crane Cams Fireball Ignition Box
-APR head studs
-New oil pump with screen
-New main bearings
-New rod bearings
-Balanced rotating assembly
-Timing chain
-New push rods
-New plugs
-New GM Optispark/coil
-New plug wires
-New MAF
-3.73 gears in 10-bolt
-Spec Stage 2 clutch
-Nitto DR's
-Head unit+Sub+Amp
-'97's have the LS1 interior and gauges

I'll be upfront about the issues. The car made 485whp @5psi. Here's what I've noticed since I've had it: The new OEM Opti seems to miss at high rpm, and does not like the rain. I'm not sure why. This was replaced in December, 2012. The oil pressure will drop from 60 to 45/50 under WOT, above 4k rpm. I am unsure if it's because the builder didn't install the windage tray, or the pick up fell off (common LT1 problem), or there is something bigger going on internally. The car has some blowby out of the tail pipes, but there is almost none when you pull the oil cap, and dipstick, and rev. There is none at idle. Also, the car has a vibration at speed, 90 and above. It only really happens when it's in gear. I'm not sure if it's the driveshaft, who knows. The point is, I don't want to deal with it.

I bought the car for $7900 last Friday, and I'll sell if for 5.2K, OBO. It passed CT emissions, and I have the certificate. It is not yet registered, so I still have the title. I have a Bill of Sale, and other documents so show the buyer I'm not blowing smoke out of my ***.

I would need a name to tell you anything. I've done several like that.

Tail pipe smoke is not blow by. Usually that would be oil rings, valve seals, intake gasket, or a pin hole in an intake port.

Vibration at that speed is usually the driveshaft.

If they aren't bright enough to diagnose a car, or if it's not as fast as they think it should be, the ******* tune is junk.

Even Ed cannot tune around all those problems.

I paid a guy 500 to tune my 388, even thou it was on a dyno it still didn't drive right. Put a LM2 on it and found it to be way off under power, got a tune by Ed when I did my 396 O2's were very good and it wasn't any worse than the first one. Usually a poor running car has some other issues besides just the tune.

Never mind the eagle cast crank, the overly low compression, the fuel system, the misfire, whole engine needs to be torn down and rebuilt with proper parts.

I think the biggest issue is the 30lb injectors with FMU setup.

You could always put a stock LT1 in it to sell it, then part out all the goodies....I would think you could get at least 2.5-4K for just the heads/supercharger setup separately. Or find some high school kid who wants a "project" car

I don't choose their parts, but many are using those with no problem.

I had that oil pressure problem once. Does the car have the stock oil pan with a high volume pump? If it does that is the issue. My car was sucking the pan low. I put on a Moroso pan that now leaks all over but does maintain oil pressure. POS... Does anyone have an aftermarket pan that doesnt leak? I would like to throw this one in the street?

Windage tray has zero to do with the oil pressure problem. Could be the pickup, some seem to not know to tack weld them on with stainless rod, or braze them.
Could also be one of the dumbest things you could do: High Volume oil pump. On what planet are those needed? LOL

The power output isn't bad for too low compression and only 5 psi. Is a very poor combination.
